Papillomaviruses are the causative agents of the common wart. Although the human papillomavirus is strongly associated with certain dysplastic and malignant lesions, its exact role in tumour development remains to be determined. This review examines the role of human papilloma virus as a potential oncogenic agent in human mucosal and non-mucosal squamous cell carcinoma.
