fussnote Mengovirus infection of L-cells induces a rapid decline in the rate of synthesis of both RNA and protein. Both puromycin and p-fluorophenylalanine can suppress the inhibition of host cell RNA synthesis and p-fluorophenylalanine can prevent the inhibition of protein synthesis. These results are taken to mean that the inhibitions are caused by proteins which are synthesized under the control of the viral RNA.
