fussnote Fission-fragment angular distributions were measured for the fission of ^2^3^0Th induced with monoenergetic neutrons of energies 682, 715,730 and 740 keV and energy resolution 5 keV, and energies of 750 and 1000 keV and energy resolution 20 keV. The unusual peak in the excitation function of the ^2^3^0Th(n, f) reaction for neutron energies in the vicinity of 720 keV is interpreted in terms of a vibrational-mode resonance state in a potential well of a two-humped fission barrier. Evidence is presented to show that the resonance has K = 12. Theoretical fits to the fission cross sections and angular distributions are shown for both parities.
