fussnote | The sensitive time of a typical 40 cm wide gap chamber operated in the spark mode and filled with 90% Ne-10% He at 1.1 atm has been determined using 158 MeV protons. It is found that the efficiency for obtaining good tracks is 〉98% when two or three particles arrive within 0.5 μsec of the application of the high voltage pulse and that this efficiency decreases rapidly with arrival times larger than 0.5 μsec. |
