Summary Infection of piglets, defined as the development of clinical symptoms with or without the excretion of viral particles in stools, was induced by as few as 90 rotavirus particles equivalent to 0.006 CD50% (cytopathic dose 50%) and 0.04mpniu (most probable number of infections units).
