Conclusion In this paper we have demonstrated the performance of a simple hydraulically controlled moving mirror drive which is suitable for most applications in Fourier transform spectroscopy. The drive is constructed entirely of components which are available commercially, and the mirror movement is extremely smooth and free of systematic errors. The speed of travel can be controlled easily and continuously over a very wide range extending from 3×10−4 to 10mm/sec, and the system can be conveniently used in vacuum.
