Abstract A high-yielding synthesis of the highly fluorescent amino acid l-2-amino-3-(7-methoxy-4-coumaryl)propionic acid (l-Amp) has been developed via (2R)-bornane-10,2-sultam glycinate. l-Amp facilitates the synthesis of sensitive fluorogenic proteinase substrates with N-terminal solubilising or reactive groups.
