Summary The effects of a non-ionic surfactant, Pluronic F-68, on growth of chick embryonic fibroblasts and hamster melanoma cellsin vitro have been studied. Low concentrations (0.05–0.1% w/v) of commercial grade Pluronic stimulated growth of both cell types whereas low concentrations of purified Pluronic inhibited fibroblast growth but strongly stimulated growth of melanoma cells. These observations suggest that Pluronic may have value for regulating growth of cell cultures.
