Abstract The effect of experimental design on the ability of metiamide to inhibit gastric secretion induced by histamine, bethanechol and carbachol has been investigated in the Heidenhain pouch dog. All three secretagogues can be inhibited by metiamide to an extent depending on the experimental design.
