A general method for the synthesis of π-allyl-iron-tricarbonyl halides, enabling the preparation of the parent π-allyl complexes and also of π-allyl complexes with functional groups attached to the allyl ligand, is described. The method is equally applicable to the preparation of the chlorides, bromides and iodides. A series of such compounds have been prepared, and their physical properties and structures are discussed.
