ISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: The magnetic properties of an alternating two-element multilayer film are studied by the Green's function based upon the Heisenberg model with coupled interaction between the layers in the interfaces. It is proved that the order parameter changed with the position of the atomic planes in the multilayer films but the Curie temperature of the atomic planes is all the same. Applying the theory to an alternating terbium-iron multilayer structure, numerical calculation agrees with the results of magnetic measurements.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Due to the high frequency of the magnetic field, the hysteresis loops could be displayed on an oscilloscope and their details could be observed. The demagnetization factor, the stability, and the frequency characteristics of the tracer were tested. The ac magnetization of granular high-Tc superconductors was studied as a function of field amplitude and frequency. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1997Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: We have measured the magnetic hysteresis loops of an epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7−δ thin film using our recently developed device which can provide the field magnitude in the range of 0–1000 Oe and the field sweep rate up to 107 Oe/s. The shape of the hysteresis loop measured changes with the field-sweep rate up to the critical sweep rate; and over the critical sweep rate the ac magnetization reaches its real critical state where magnetization does not change even with a further increase in the field-sweep rate. The critical sweep rate is about 106 Oe/s at 77 K. With the hysteresis loops and Bean model, we have calculated the magnetization critical current density (Jcac) which is consistent with that obtained by I–V measurements. We have also studied flux motion and activation energy under the high sweep rate magnetic field. At temperature 77 K, the velocity of the flux motion is of the order 10 m/s and the pinning energy U0/k is about 339 K which is much smaller than the magnetization decay measurement. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

York Imperial) buds associated with bud break and bud development was determined. The data showed that increased ABA content in apple buds was associated with thidiazuron-induced bud break and bud development. ABA stimulated growth of apple buds that had emerged from dormancy by thidiazuron treatment. The ABA in apple buds was confirmed by GC-EIMS and GC-CIMS.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1435-8107Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionNotes: Abstract The effect of [(N-phenyl-N′-1,2,3-thidiazol-5-ylurea)] (thidazuron) on sprouting of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers and the role of ABA in bud break and subsequent bud growth were studied. Abscisic acid (ABA) was quantitated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) from the peel of potato tubers. The ELISA results were also validated by gas chromatography-electron capture detector and confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and by a lettuce hypocotyl bioassay. The degree of rest in the tubers was associated with ABA content in the peel. Basal portion (where tuber was attached to mother plant) contained the highest amount of ABA. Thidiazuron reduced ABA content and induced potato tuber sprouting. Exogenously applied ABA stimulated growth of buds that had emerged from dormancy.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The semiconductive perovskite-type oxide SrFeO3-x (x〈0.16) (SFO) thin films have been directly fabricated on (001)SrTiO3 and (001)LaAlO3 single crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) under high oxygen partial pressure of 100 Pa. The SFO thin films were (110) oriented. The x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that the surface of SFO thin film has strong gas absorption capability. The resistance versus temperature has been measured in the temperature range from 77 K to 300 K. The SFO thin film showed typical semiconductive property. Dependence of resistance of SFO thin film on oxygen pressure was measured and result showed that the SFO thin film had better oxygen sensitive property.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1435-8107Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionNotes: Abstract Bud break in apple (Golden Delicious,Malus domestica Borkh) was induced by thidiazuron (N-phenyl-N′-1,2,3-thidiazol-5-ylurea). In control and thidiazuron-treated shoots, higher amounts of soluble carbohydrates (sorbitol, fructose, glucose, sucrose) and galacturonic acid were found in the phloem, but higher amounts of starch and cell wall polysaccharides, including cellulose and xylose, were found in the xylem. A decrease in soluble carbohydrates and starch in both phloem and xylem was associated with induction of bud break by thidiazuron. However, little change in cell wall polysaccharides was found. Total carbohydrates were higher in the upper than in the lower portion of shoots. The breaking of dormancy by thidiazuron was also associated with an increase in organic acid content and respiration in buds. KCN inhibited bud respiration during all stages of development. Organic acid content was inversely related to carbohydrate content in developing buds. Axes contained more carbohydrates and organic acids than did scales.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
