The sample surfaces were exposed to ambient air after the plasma treatment. The TSEE glow curve (298–623 K) exhibited broad emission peaks at ∼373 and ∼473 K, and an increase in the intensity above 573 K. A theoretical analysis revealed that the glow curves were composed of four peaks except for the increase above 573 K, where each peak had a different trap depth, but almost the same electron affinity. The resolved two peaks in the lower temperature region increased compared to those in the higher temperature region with an increase in the O1s/Si2p ratio and also in the Si2p (oxide)/Si2p (substrate) ratio. The relationship of the surface chemical structure to the resolved four peaks is considered.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1434-601XSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract The influence of various organic vapours on the exo-electron glow curves for sandblasted mild steel was examined. The emission intensity of the peak which was observed at 51–66 °C in the glow curve was ranked as follows: n-butyl chloride≪ acetonitrile 〈 benzene 〈 methanol≅toluene≅acetone≅ethanol≅isopropyl alcohol〈 ethyl acetate≪ propylamines. This listing closely resembles to that of the proton attracting power of the functional groups of the organics. From this, it is supposed that the peak emission may be promoted through the formation of hydrogen bond between the functional groups and the deformed solid surface.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1573-6865Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyMedicineNotes: Summary In order to demonstrate the localization of an anti-allergic agent, Tranilast, in the mast cells, light microscopic radioautography was performed. The mast cells collected from rat peritoneal cavity were incubated for 0 to 60 min in a medium containing3H-Tranilast. After the incubation, they were fixed, embedded and processed for light microscopic radioautography. The radioautographic silver grains were frequently localized around and over the cytoplasmic granules and their number increased according to the prolongation of incubation time. From the results obtained at present it was demonstrated that Tranilast was rapidly taken into the cytoplasm of mast cells. This phenomenon may suggest an important role of this agent in the inhibition of allergic reactions of mast cells.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
