It is concluded that this entity differs from previously reported syndromes presenting macroglossia and is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

One of the patients also had congenital hypothyroidism, an association hitherto undescribed and possibly fortuitous. Neither stigmata of WBS in other family members nor parental consanguinity were found, indicating a possible autosomal dominant inheritance comprising either a delayed mutation of an unstable premutated gene or non-penetrance.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-1920Keywords: Aplasia cutis congenita ; Scalp defects ; Congenital anomalies ; Three-dimensional computed tomographySource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Abstract Localised agenesis of the scalp is the most frequent patern in aplasia cutis congenita (ACC), a congenital absence of the skin and occasionally of deeper layers. Several clinical groups are characterised by the location and pattern of skin defects, associated malformations and the mode of inheritance. Death occurs in 20% of cases, secondary to the associated anomalies, to infections or to haemorrhage from ulceration of the sagittal sinus when there is also a defect of the underlying skull. In this latter case, we close the defect by two rotational scalp flaps (Orticochea technique) at birth. A three-dimensional CT study is useful for showing the extent of the skull defect and the deformity of the craniofacial complex and the changes in the bone after treatment.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-9532Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract Using the Ma interpretation of 5D Wesson gravity, we construct the corresponding Weyl equation in a quasistatic spherically symmetric gravitational background in order to look at the mass term predicted by the theory. We find that the value of this mass depends strongly on the boundary conditions selected for theg55. As an example we calculate its value at the surface of the earth.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1992Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: The conformal invariance properties of a Dirac oscillator are established. A set of operators is constructed whose algebra shows that it can be considered as a conformal system. The operators are then used to solve the problem using algebraic techniques. The superconformal generalization of the algebra is also worked out, and some consequences of these invariances for the properties of the model are mentioned.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1999Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: A novel realization of the classical SU(2) algebra is introduced for the Dirac relativistic hydrogen atom defining a set of operators that allow the factorization of the problem. An extra phase is needed as a new variable in order to define the algebra. We take advantage of the operators to solve the Dirac equation using algebraic methods. A similar path to the one used in the angular momentum case is used; hence, the radial eigenfunctions so calculated comprise nonunitary representations of the algebra. One of the interesting properties of such nonunitary representations is that they are not labeled by integer nor by half-integer numbers, as occurs in the usual angular momentum representation. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 2004Staff ViewISSN: 1439-0523Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionNotes: Four tomato lines introgressed from Lycopersicon chilense were compared with the commercial F1 hybrids ‘ARO 8479’ and ‘HA 3108’, which are tolerant to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, and the cv. ‘Campbell 28’ as a susceptible control. Resistance was evaluated by the use of grafted diseased scions as well as in a field trial where plants infected by viruliferous whiteflies and disease-free plants were transplanted in paired rows. The new lines LD 3, LD 4, LD 5 and LD 6 showed no disease symptoms after grafting or in the field trial. Virus accumulation at 60 days after transplanting was low in the infected plants: 0.09, 0.60, 1.00 and 0.50 ng, respectively. No fruit-set or yield losses were registered under the high temperature conditions prevalent in the trial, in which lines LD 5 and LD 6 were better adapted to tropical conditions. Viral DNA concentrations were over 1000 ng in the cvs.‘Campbell 28′,‘ARO 8479’ and ‘HA 3108’. The last two are considered tolerant as they were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, respectively, but achieved acceptable yields in the trial. By contrast, virus had a negative effect on fruit-set, number of fruit per plant and total yield in the cv.‘Campbell 28’.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 2005Staff ViewISSN: 1745-4581Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: BiologyNotes: In the present study, a simple rapid test based on lactose fermentation, suggested in 1990 by Shrestha and Sinha for the rapid detection of coliforms in pasteurized milk, was evaluated. In the rapid test, a concentrate of the product (heat-treated and inoculated with different levels of Escherichia coli – 102, 104and 106cells/mL), obtained by centrifugation, was mixed with an equivalent amount of double-strength broth before incubation at 37C. A total of 60 samples of pasteurized milk was studied. Thirty of them were analyzed by the Most Probable Number (MPN) method and by the rapid test. Mac Conkey, Brilliant Green Bile (BGB) and Violet Red Bile (VRB) were used as selective broths. A statistically significant negative relationship between the MPN method and the rapid detection time (obtained by rapid test) was found. The other 30 samples were used to compare the MPN, the rapid test and the Petrifilm® methods for rapid detection of coliforms. The detection times using VRB were shorter. The differences among the three methods were statistically significant.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
