The as-grown films have a highly oriented perovskite-like structure, a sharp metal–insulator transition in zero magnetic field at a temperature (Tp) near 220 K, and a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 900%. We found that a reduction in the film thickness leads to a shift of Tp in the low-temperature range and a significant suppression in the TCR value. The obtained films also exhibited an anisotropic temperature behavior of the magnetoresistance in a magnetic field of 1.5 T. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1077-3118Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: The transport and magnetic properties of as-deposited and long-aged La0.5Sr0.5CoO3−δ films prepared by pulsed laser deposition have been investigated. It was found that an oxygen deficiency in the aged film leads not only to a change in the Co3+:Co4+ ratio, but to the formation of a structural disorder in the Co–O–Co conduction channel due to the accumulated oxygen vacancies. In addition to the usual ferromagnetic transition at TC(similar, equals)250 K, the second magnetic transition was observed at TM(approximate)50 K, which is treated as a freezing of the spin-glass state provided by the weak disorder in the oxygen arrangement. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The x-ray diffraction data have shown separation of the film into two crystalline phases of the cubic and rhombohedral symmetry with different oxygen contents of δ(similar, equals)0.08 and 0.16, respectively, after a half-year aging at room temperature in air. Both phases testify two different electronic (metal–insulator) and magnetic transitions with similar maximum values of magnetoresistance. The possible mechanism for such a type of structural transition in the aged manganite thin films is discussed. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The velocities of longitudinal (c L=17–26 km/s) and transverse (c T=7.2–9.6 km/s) elastic waves in the samples were measured. It was established that the longitudinal sound velocity of ultrahard fullerites is higher than that of any other known solid. The bulk modulus of these ultrahard samples is higher than that of diamond and reaches a value greater than 1 TPa. The high bulk modulus, the relatively large shear moduli, and the substantial Poisson ratio indicate that the structure of the ultrahard fullerites is fundamentally different from that of diamond.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1063-7834Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract Measurements of the specific heat and elastic wave velocities for a C60 fullerene sample treated at high pressure and temperature are used to estimate the Debye temperature and the function ΔC=C p−C v, and also to calculate the thermal expansion work in the ideal approximation. Similar calculations were made for graphite, diamond, silicon, germanium, and various refractory metals. The results were used to draw qualitative conclusions on the structural stability of a new material obtained from fullerene C60 which possesses extremely high hardness.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

In this paper, problems related to the approximation of a holomorphic function f on a compact subset E of the complex plane C by rational functions from the class $ {\cal R}_{n,m} $ of all rational functions of order (n,m) are considered. Let ρ n,m = ρ n,m (f;E) be the distance of f in the uniform metric on E from the class $ {\cal R}_{n,m} $ . We obtain results characterizing the rate of convergence to zero of the sequence of the best rational approximation { ρ n,m(n) } n=0 ∞ , m(n)/n → θ ∈ (0,1] as n → ∞ . In particular, we give an upper estimate for the liminf n →∞ ρ n,m(n) 1/(n+m(n)) in terms of the solution to a certain minimum energy problem with respect to the logarithmic potential. The proofs of the results obtained are based on the methods of the theory of Hankel operators.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The greatest reduction in swelling was produced by 20% cold deformation, which at a high dislocation density led to a sharp refinement of the pores and lamellar precipitations. The lamellar phases precipitated in steels of the Kh16N15 type during the irradiation after special alloying or preliminary treatment do not always determine the nature of the generation and growth of vacancy pores. At a temperature of 460 and 550°C the swelling of nickel is less by a factor of about 3, and the swelling of α iron is less by a factor of about 10, than the swelling of austenized 0Kh16N15M3B steel. The least swelling was found in the Kh77TYu alloy (with 77% nickel), which before irradiation contained γ′-phase pre-precipitations, whereas the swelling of alloys with 40 and 60% nickel is 100 times as great. From this it is clear that the nickel content is not the only factor determining the swelling.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
