The ion source is a volume-production type multicusp one with an extraction area of 25×25 cm2. It is found that high density negative hydrogen ions of more than 1 × 1012 cm−3 are produced in the center of the arc chamber with a double magnetic filter configuration. A supply of a small amount of cesium vapor into the arc chamber has greatly enhanced the H− ion current and reduced the operation pressure. The H− ion current of 3.3 A has been extracted from a Cs-seeded plasma at the pressure of 0.9 Pa.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1365-2621Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Process Engineering, Biotechnology, Nutrition TechnologyNotes: Fish sauce was prepared with sodium chloride or natural salt partially replaced by potassium chloride at three ratios, 90 : 10, 75 : 25 and 60 : 40. Volatile acids were collected by steam distillation under reduced pressure and measured. The sensory property of the products was evaluated. The amino acid content was also measured. Most of the volatile acids in all the samples with added KCl were higher than in the controls, suggesting a role for KCl in the formation of volatile acids in fish sauce manufacture. Sensory evaluation showed slight differences in odour between the samples with added KCl and the controls, but the differences did not affect the acceptability of the product. However, acceptance of taste terminated at a 75 : 25 NaCl or natural salt : KCl ratio. Almost all the amino acids in the control and in the fish sauces with added KCl were comparable to those of commercial fish sauce. Partial substitution of NaCl or natural salt with KCl up to a ratio of 75 : 25 seems feasible.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-2307Keywords: Cytomegalic inclusion disease ; Viral replication ; Viral regulatory proteins ; Immunohistochemistry ; In situ hybridizationSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Abstract Postmortem tissues from infants with congenital and postnatally acquired human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection were examined by routine histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) to determine the dynamics of viral replication in vivo. Histologically, infants in both groups showed characteristic inclusion-bearing cells most commonly in lung, kidney, liver and pancreas. IHC for late proteins using a rabbit polyclonal antibody and ISH for viral genomes detected most of the infected cells as nuclear and/or cytoplasmic signals. However, immunostaining with a monoclonal antibody against viral immediate early (IE) proteins was variable depending on the stage of viral replication within an individual infected cell. In tissues of infants with postnatal HCMV infection, many cells harboured IE antigens, while in tissues from congenital cases most of the affected cells lacked IE antigens and only a few showed cytoplasmic staining. The difference was not caused by the antigenic diversity among viral strains as confirmed by in vitro study. Our findings suggested that congenital infections exhibited uniformly late stage proteins with inactive viral replication at death, while acquired ones remained active. The different viral activity may reflect the immune status of congenital and acquired HCMV infections.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
