ISSN: 1572-9559Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Conclusion In this paper we have demonstrated the performance of a simple hydraulically controlled moving mirror drive which is suitable for most applications in Fourier transform spectroscopy. The drive is constructed entirely of components which are available commercially, and the mirror movement is extremely smooth and free of systematic errors. The speed of travel can be controlled easily and continuously over a very wide range extending from 3×10−4 to 10mm/sec, and the system can be conveniently used in vacuum.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Results on the former are in good agreement with an effective-medium bulk-slab model of the dielectric tensor of the superlattice; results on the latter are analysed in terms of a model that contains dielectric-tensor contributions from the confined optic phonons.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The results have been used to calculate the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function (ɛ′, ɛ″) from the Fresnel relations. A plasma contribution is observed in the spectra in addition to the phonon response. For both samples a broad but weak reflection band around 95–105 cm−1 is observed as well as the expected two-oscillator response from the HgTe-like and CdTe-like optical phonons. This feature is attributed to absorption due to phonon combination bands, but it is too broad to enable assignments to be made. There is no evidence of additional features in the CdTe region due to clustering.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-9559Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract The optical constants of KI have been determined in the far infrared at 200 and 300K by dispersive Fourier transform spectrometry and used to calculate the imaginary part of the anharmonic self-energy of the q≃o transverse optic mode. The overall agreement, both quãlitatively and quantitatively, with calculations by Berg and Bell and by Ełdridge and Kembry which include contributions from cubic anharmonicity is good.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The system has been equipped with software which includes a fast Fourier transform programme for use in either conventional or dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopy, and programmes for calculating the optical constants and dielectric functions of solids from complex spectra obtained by dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopy.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The spectrometer has been constructed almost entirely from commercially available components, and its performance is illustrated with measurements of the optical constants of NaCl at 6K.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
