Publication Date: 2024-01-30Description: Aims: Evidence suggests that suicide stigma (i.e. negative attitudes towards persons affected by suicide/suicidality) and suicide normalisation (i.e. liberal attitudes towards suicide) are both associated with increased suicide risk. Despite conceptual similarities and potential interaction, suicide stigma and suicide normalisation have usually been investigated separately. We used cross-sectional data from a community sample to test the association between suicide stigma and suicide normalisation as well as to identify their respective determinants and consequences. Methods: Participants were N = 3.269 adults recruited from an established online-panel using quotas to reflect the composition of the German general population with regard to age, gender, education and region. We collected information about suicide stigma, suicide normalisation, intentions to seek help for suicidality, current suicidality, suicide literacy, negative mood and socio-demographic variables. We used regression modelling to determine the association between suicide stigma and suicide normalisation as well as to identify their determinants and consequences. Keywords: Soziale Probleme und Sozialdienste ; Psychologie ; Social problems and services ; Psychology ; ZIS 242 ; soziale Probleme ; Sozialpsychologie ; Social Problems ; Social Psychology ; Normalisierung ; Prophylaxe ; Gesellschaft ; Stigma ; Selbstmord ; psychische Gesundheit ; normalization ; prophylaxis ; society ; stigma ; suicide ; mental healthType: Zeitschriftenartikel, journal article -

ISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: We have prepared n-channel silicon field-effect transistors, which are capable of working at liquid helium temperatures (4.2 K) and used them in cooled preamplifiers for rf superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) readout electronics. All metallizations of these transistors were made of niobium, to study the possibility of a further integration of a SQUID and FET on the same chip. Using the FETs in a cooled preamplifier together with a rf SQUID gradiometer, the flux noise of the system could be reduced by a factor of 3 compared to a room temperature low noise preamplifier. We have also performed calculations of a possible increase of the substrate temperature due to the power dissipation of the FET and have measured the cross talk between FET and SQUID. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: It is shown within a simple micromagnetic model calculation that novel magnetic hysteresis behavior including the unusual phenomenon of negative remanence can occur in asymmetric exchange coupled bi- and multilayer films. The latter denotes a magnetization state opposite to the field direction in which the sample was premagnetized. We have observed such effects in polar Kerr hysteresis measurements from perpendicularly oriented sandwich structures grown on Pt(111) buffers, e.g., Co(0.8 nm)/Rh(0.9 nm)/Co(0.8 nm). The model minimizes the total magnetic energy as function of the applied field and angles phi1 and phi2 of the two layers with respect to the film normal (easy) direction. The energy includes besides external field energy, a demagnetization term and interlayer exchange and anisotropy contributions. The general shape of the experimentally observed hysteresis loops can be reproduced, if one assumes slight asymmetries in the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic layers. These could be caused by unequal thicknesses and/or local roughnesses which would alter the interfacial anisotropy contributions. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1398-9995Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: In 16 asthmatic patients and in four subjects suspected of having hypersensitivity pneumonitis, serum levels of CH50, C3, C4, C5 and factor B were measured before, between 10 and 20 min, between 5 and 7 h and, in the latter group, also 24 h after allergen challenges provoking type I bronchial reactions or acute hypersensitivity pneumonitis. There was a significant decrease in one of the complement factors in two patients during the immediate asthmatic phase, but in no patient during the late asthmatic phase and in no patient with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. On the other hand, significant increases of C3, C4, and/or CH50 were seen in five patients during immediate asthmatic reactions, in seven patients during late asthmatic reactions and in all cases with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. However, with respect to the particular complement factors the vast majority of the patients showed no appreciable change. Investigations of C3 split products, which were done in seven patients gave negative results. No correlations existed between the changes in the levels of complement factors to increases of Raw, decreases of DLCO, size of skin test reactions or RAST scores. The cause and pathophysiological role of the non-uniform behaviour of serum complement levels after inhalation challenges is not yet clear; obviously both consumption and formation of complement factors take place during allergen-induced asthmatic reactions and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1996Staff ViewISSN: 1365-2036Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Aim: The present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of 1-week triple therapy regimens for Helicobacter pylori. Methods: In two consecutive series, 120 patients with proven H. pylori infection and peptic ulcer disease or functional dyspepsia were treated with either omeprazole 20 mg b.d., amoxycillin 1 g b.d. and clarithromycin 250 mg b.d. (OAC; n=60) or with omeprazole 20 mg b.d., amoxycillin 1 g b.d. and metronidazole 400 mg b.d. over 1 week (OAM; n=60). H. pylori infection was assessed by rapid urease test, culture and histology before and 4 weeks after cessation of the eradication therapy. Results: H. pylori eradication succeeded in 53 out of 60 patients by omeprazole–amoxycillin–clarithromycin (OAC) (88%; 95% CI 77–95%) and in 47 out of 60 patients by omeprazole–amoxycillin–metronidazole (OAM) (78%; 95% CI 66–88%) (P=0.22). Nine patients of each group available for follow-up reported adverse events (15.0 and 15.5%, respectively) without necessity of discontinuation of the study medications. Serious adverse events were not observed. Conclusions: Simple and convenient 1-week triple therapies consisting of omeprazole, amoxycillin and either clarithromycin or metronidazole are sufficiently effective in eradicating H. pylori infection.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
