Publication Date: 2018-07-27Description: This study investigates to what extend do teachers of English as a school subject (ESS) in Saudi schools follow recommendations and guidelines suggested by language testing specialists in developing tables of specifications and preparing blueprints to their formative and summative language tests. To answer the study questions, a thirteen-statement Likert-scale questionnaire was developed and validated. The questionnaire was completed by 199 female and male ESS teachers in Saudi schools with different years of experience who teach ESS in public and private schools to intermediate and high school level students. The results indicated that the study participants rarely follow the recommended guidelines in preparing their test specifications and blueprints. It was also found that the participants usually prepare their tests without prior planning. They do not specify in advance language skills and elements they are going to include in their tests or the scoring methods they are going to follow. Language elements that lend themselves to be tested have the priority. Significant differences among the participants according to gender, years of experience, school types the participants work for and the level they teach were found and reported. The study is concluded with recommendations that might be helpful to in-service ESS teachers. Keywords: Bildung und Erziehung ; Education ; tables of specifications; blueprints; test constructions; formative language tests; summative language test ; Lehrende, Erziehende, Lernende ; Unterricht, Didaktik ; Teachers, Students, Pupils ; Curriculum, Teaching, Didactics ; Englischunterricht ; Fremdsprachenunterricht ; Sprachkenntnisse ; Test ; Leistung ; Kompetenz ; Lehrer ; Sekundarbereich ; Saudi-Arabien ; English language lessons ; foreign language teaching ; knowledge of languages ; test ; achievement ; competence ; teacher ; secondary education ; Saudi Arabia ; 10600Type: Zeitschriftenartikel, journal article -

ISSN: 1365-2133Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: The effects of intracutaneous injections of preparations of equal parts of betamethasone disodium phosphate and betamethasone acetate (Celestone Chronodose®) and triamcinolone acetonide (Kenacort-A®) on plasma cortisol levels were studied. Significant suppression of plasma cortisol lasting from 3 to 13 days was observed with various doses of the first preparation. With triamcinolone acetonide, there was only a mild and transient suppression.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Seven of them did not bind at all. Four immunoglobulins (all mouse IgGl) were bound but easily eluted (at pH 6). They were probably bound via the Fc part. All eleven were classified as negative for alternative binding. Fifteen immunoglobulins were found to bind more firmly; they came off the protein A column at pH 4–3 (alternative binders).Amino acid sequences of immunoglobulins that have been typed in the present work or earlier (25 binders and 26 non-binders) were compared. The light chain, the C region of the heavy chain and the D and JH segments look irrelevant for alternative binding. The N-terminal portion (amino acids 1–94) of the H chain probably forms the ligand of protein A. A peptide making the ligand cannot be reliably localized within this stretch but binder proteins had a high homology in residues 6–29.All mouse immunoglobulins expressing Vh genes of families J606 or S107 were alternative binders; those expressing other families were non-binders.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

In the present report, we provide an overview on the basic DNA microarray technology and biostatistical methods for gene expression analysis. A focus is then put on its applications in dermatological research. In recent years, a series of gene expression studies have been performed for various dermatological diseases, such as malignant melanoma, psoriasis and lupus erythematosus. These analyses have identified interesting target genes as well as putative disease susceptibility loci. However, further functional studies will be needed for a more complete understanding of the pathogenesis of these diseases. This may be performed by means of the recently developed RNA interference technology. Besides its role in large-scale gene expression studies, DNA microarray technology has proved to be a valuable tool for genomic screens of genetic alterations, e.g. single nucleotide polymorphisms. These play a role in tumour development and progression, and also function as genetic markers for disease susceptibility. Taken together, DNA microarray technology opens enormous perspectives for dermatologists. It may help us understand the complex pathogenesis of a wide variety of dermatologic diseases and identify their genetic background.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
