[Auszug] A comprehensive series of VLBI (very-long-baseline interferometry) observations of SS433, carried out over an 11-day period on the European VLSI Network at 5 GHz, reveals the motion and evolution of a series of faint 'blobs' ejected from the system. These blobs are observed to brighten at a ...

    Notes:
Abstract Interactions at the behavioral level between dopamine (DA) and opioid receptors in the mammalian brain have been amply demonstrated. Considering the pivotal role for DA receptors in the pharmacotherapy of Parkinson's disease (PD), these interactions might be clinically relevant. Therefore, in the present study the effects of the opioid antagonist naltrexone and agonist morphine on D1 and D2 receptor induced stimulation of motor behavior in the unilateral MPTP monkey model (n=5) of PD were investigated. The results show that both naltrexone and morphine [0.1–1.0 mg/kg; intramuscular injection (IM)] inhibited D2 receptor stimulated contralateral rotational behavior and hand use induced by administration of quinpirole (LY 171555; 0.01 mg/kg, IM) in a dose-related way. However, no effects of these opioid drugs were observed on D1 receptor stimulated contralateral rotational behavior and hand use induced by administration of SKF 81297 (0.3 mg/kg, IM). Interestingly, the action of the alleged preferentialμ-receptor antagonist naltrexone was mimicked by the selectiveδ-opioid antagonist naltrindole (0.5 mg/kg, IM). From this study it is concluded that in a non-human primate model of PD, alteration of opioid tonus leads to modulation of D2 receptor but not D1 receptor controlled motor behavior. The possible underlying mechanisms and clinical relevance of these findings are discussed.

Summary In this article the results obtained in preceding papers are extended to the study of the effect of a change of the number of basic quantities in the field of electromagnetism. The different forms of Coulomb's law and of the expression for the force between parallel currents are tabulated (tables G and H, § 9). In a separate section the points are stipulated in which the consequences of the concept of “concrete” quantities and the “abstract quantity calculus” diverge.

Summary The experience gathered in a preceeding article, in which questions relating to the interpretation of quantity equations were elucidated by means of a simple example, is applied to some of the equations occurring in the field of electromagnetism, especially as regards rationalization. In a preceeding paper1) (to be quoted as I) we have given a personal view regarding quantity equations and their interpretation. In the present article we shall make an attempt at applying these considerations to some of the equations occurring in the field of electromagnetism, especially as regards the rationalization of those equations by which the quantitiesH, D and Ψ are introduced or defined. To make comparison easy, the results obtained in I will be repeated in a condensed form, as far as necessary.

Summary The interpretation of quantity equations is discussed along the lines indicated by A. Lodge in 1888. From this point of view products of integral powers (+ and −) of quantities have no meaning by themselves, but a certain meaning can be ascribed to them by convention, letting room for more then one interpretation. Special attention is given to the problem of rationalization and to that of an extension of the number of basic quantities, by means of a simple example.
