When all matrix elements have the same sign, a theorem due to Perron ensures the existence of a coherent state: the collective particle-hole state. The example of Gamow-Teller transitions between208Bi(1+) and208Pb(0+) is considered and the strength of the Gamow-Teller giant resonance as well as the fluctuations in the ensemble are studied. When a fractionp of matrix elements are of opposite sign, we find that a giant resonance may still exist providedp is small enough. Its magnitude and position in the spectrum are studied. The method proposed is valid for any particle hole excitation. The two body matrix elements of several interactions are analysed and are shown to fit into a unique valuep=0.2 for the 1 + states.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

It was grown in media containing potassium dichromate concentration up to 80 mg ml−1 of the medium. The dichromate reducing capability of the bacterium was checked by estimating the amount of Cr VI in the medium before and after introduction of bacterial culture. The influence of factors like pH of the medium, concentration of Cr, and the amount of the inoculum was studied to determine the ability of the bacterium to reduce Cr VI in the medium under various conditions. In a medium containing dichromate 20 mg ml−1 more than 87% reduction of dichromate ions was achieved within 72 h. The feasibility of the use of this bacterial strain for detoxification of dichromate in the industrial wastewater has been assessed. The model disregards the nonuniform nature of the current distribution upstream of the crack which is produced by the presence of the corner, and this simplification leads to unfolded field problems of plane Laplacian form. The Schwarz-Christoffel transformation is applied here in their solution.
