    Notes:
A survey of airborne pollen grains from four zones of metropolitan Delhi was conducted for 1 year (February 1988-January 1989) at human height level (5′-6′). Sampling was carried out in different inhabited areas in the four zones using Burkard Volumetric Personal Samplers. Sampling was carried out at weekly intervals, three times a day (7, 14, & 20 h) for 15 min. Poaceae, Ricinus, Cheno-Amaranth, Moms, Artemisia, Myrtaceae, Parthenium, Prosopis and Cannabis are important pollen contributors to the atmosphere, especially at lower heights. In general, pollen concentration was low at human height. Quantitative zonal variations have been recorded within an urban city.

    Notes:
Antigenic extracts prepared from pollen samples collected at weekly intervals during the same season did not exhibit significant variation in protein concentration. Stored pollen samples from different years, however, showed highly significant variations in protein concentration. The protein content of samples from different ecozones of India also varied (CV =± 32%). The IEF and SDS-PAGE patterns were almost identical in samples from the same season, but were variable in the samples stored from different years and different parts of India. IgE binding proteins from different samples also varied depending on the overall protein profiles. Almost all the patients, however, showed IgE binding to four proteins at 50, 60, 66 and 70 kD, indicating the important allergenic components of Holoptelea integrifolia.

Summary In this study a comparison of the effect of exposure ofChanna punctatus to LC(50) (1.8 mg/L) and a sublethal concentration (0.30 mg/L) of mercuric chloride on the activities of maltase, lactase leucyl-L-glycine dipeptidase and lipase has been made. After 96 hr of treatment, a slight elevation in maltase activity was recorded in all the portions of the digestive system. Lipase and leucyl-L-glycine dipeptidase showed inhibition in activity. Chronic treatment for 20 days revealed a significant inhibition in the activities of all the four enzymes.

Abstract The effect of exposure to a sublethal concentration (0.32 mg/L) of Dimecron® for 20 days on the digestive system of a fresh water teleost fish,Channa punctatus has been studied. The most conspicuous pathological changes in the liver were vacuolation of the cytoplasm of hepatocytes, enlargement of nuclei, rupture of the cell membrane, liver cord disarray, damage of connective tissue, infiltration of phagocytes and necrosis. The mucosa of stomach was ruptured and the gastric glands were degenerated. The mucosal epithelium of intestine and pyloric caeca was also degenerated. The mucus secreting goblet cells showed hyperactivity and the intestinal lumen was filled with mucus. No conspicuous changes were noted in the rectum except for hypersecretion of mucus. Histochemical tests revealed that alkaline phosphatase and glucose-6-phosphatase were inhibited by Dimecron treatment. However, acid phosphatase showed slight increase in activity. Biochemical tests for enzyme activity confirmed the histochemical findings. Alkaline phosphatase activity was significantly inhibited in liver and intestine. There was a slight elevation in the activity of acid phosphatase in the liver and pyloric caeca of exposed fish, but this was not statistically significant. The glucose-6-phosphatase activity was significantly inhibited in the liver, intestine and pyloric caeca.
