This device permits observation of the NMR resonances of solid-state quadrupolar nuclei, which may contain frequency components more than 1 MHz away from their fundamental precession frequencies. The transceiver contains its own frequency generation section, which employs the host spectrometer's master phase reference and synthesizer. The NMR signal undergoes image rejection mixing to an intermediate frequency above the observation band, and quadrature phase detection before final amplification with video speed operational amplifiers in the receiver section. Dual 8-bit, video speed digitizers feed the converted data to dual 16 kword deep buffers that can accept data at a rate of 4 Msamples/s. A slower data output rate is governed by the Bruker Aspect host computer. The noise figure of the device is 1.8 dB, with a sensitivity of at least −71 dBm and a recovery time of approximately 1 μs for linear amplification to resume after an excitation pulse.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Textured diamond films with greater than 50% of the grains oriented D(100)//Si(100) and D〈110〉//Si〈110〉 were grown in both a horizontal and vertical microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition reactor. Separate diamond films from each of the two reactors were analyzed both by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The in situ carburization is speculated to form an epitaxial SiC conversion layer, thus providing an economical alternative to obtaining epitaxial diamond films on single-crystal SiC.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 2001Staff ViewISSN: 1750-3841Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionProcess Engineering, Biotechnology, Nutrition TechnologyNotes: : Ammonia ion-selective electrode (ISE) measurements, reported as apparent ammonia, were correlated to expert sensory assessments of 6 different fish species stored on ice and at room temperature. Total volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N), trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA-N), and apparent ammonia showed the same development trend during storage. ISE measurements and TVB concentrations had a correlation of r2= 0.92. Sensory assessment, using a 1- to 100-mm line scale with values 〉 50 considered unacceptable, resulted in an r2between sensory scores and ISE measurements of 0.78. Regression analysis predicted 19.6 mg/100 g of apparent ammonia in fish tissue at the sensory limit of 50, regardless of storage conditions. ISE measurements could be used in predicting borderline quality and decomposition.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Plants from initially variable B. fruticulosa accessions were selfed to produce inbred resistant and susceptible lines that were studied in three separate experiments to determine the extent to which resistance to B. brassicae had been fixed. Results from three experiments using successive generations of resistant and susceptible inbred lines showed that continued selection resulted in resistant inbred lines that supported an average of three aphids per plant compared with an average of 96 aphids per plant for susceptible inbred lines. Data collected from an experiment determining the resistant phenotype of lines including the selfed progenies and the F1 and F2 progeny of a cross between resistant and susceptible individual plants indicated that the resistance was not controlled by a single gene.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Larval emergence from isolates in which H. pallida predominated was more rapid than that from isolates in which H. rostochiensis predominated. Possible reasons for this difference are discussed.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1751-908XSource: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: GeosciencesNotes: Although the Gastwirth median is fairly robust (resistant to effects of contamination), it does not, as far as is known, have appropriate confidence limits. It was suspected that it would have confidence limits similar to those of the median. This was borne out in this investigation, which was confined to symmetrical distributions. It is concluded that, for practical purposes, in approximately symmetrical distributions the confidence limits for the median can be assumed to approximate those for the Gastwirth median.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Analytical data contributed by co-operating laboratories for minor and trace elements in these NIMROC samples since then are presented here. Relevant statistical data are briefly presented; recommended values are given for those elements for which the number of results and their quality are reasonably acceptable. A brief description is also given of the procedures that were used in the estimation of these recommended values but for more details, the original NIM Report No. 1945, dated February 28, 1978 should be consulted.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
