Three filters were designed to replicate the light transmittance characteristics of 0·5, 1·0 and 1·5 mm thick human enamel. The bending strength, depth of cure, and levels of residual monomer for 12 shades of three commercial light-cured composite resins were examined. These resins were cured either using direct irradiation from a light source or irradiation through one of the filters. For all materials, the bending strength and depth of cure of specimens irradiated through a filter were lower and the levels of residual monomer were higher than those found in specimens irradiated directly. The results indicate that the light-attenuating effect of enamel reduces the polymerization efficiency, resulting in poorer mechanical properties of light-cured composite resins.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of photo-irradiation on the hardness of experimental soft lining materials. The hardness (Hex) of the nine EPLs was increased 4·3–170·1% by exposing them to light. The effect of irradiation on the Hex of the EPLs was remarkable when the material contained much ethylmethacrylate, together with smaller amounts of di-n-butyl phthalate. Moreover, the Hex tended to increase for EPLs in which the liquid portion contained less di-n-butyl phthalate or more ethanol (Et). The weight change ratio (Wc) was greater for EPL specimens containing less Et. The Wcs ranged from 0·118 to 0·661% after 8 weeks. These results showed that the Hexs of six of the EPLs were approximately equal to those of four commercially available soft lining materials, and these six EPLs may have properties favouring their use in clinical dentistry.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Angular anisotropies of extreme asymmetric mass division products even up to the fragment mass ratio of A H /A L ∼ 1.85 are found not any different from those of the typical asymmetric mass division products with A∼ 138, which indicates that no clear evidence is observed for the existence of an additional saddle point configuration in the extreme asymmetric mass division. The νi 13/2 and νh 11/2 bands of 153Sm have been extended up to 33/2+ and 31/2-, respectively. Two new γ-rays have been located on the top of the unfavored band with νi 13/2 configuration in 157Dy. Two identical relationships have been established in the low-spin region of the yrast νi 13/2 configuration between 153Sm and 155Gd, and between unfavored bands of 155Gd and 157Dy. The arthritic symptoms occurring after BCG injections had the following characteristics: (1) The incidence of arthritis was closely correlated with the host immunologic responsiveness to BCG; (2) These symptoms usually occurred 1–5 months after the first BCG injection (7/10); (3) The arthritic symptoms usually started with morning stiffness (9/10), which was followed by acute inflammatory signs in the affected joints. They gradually subsided in response to treatment with nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs, but were not completely cured while the effectiveness of BCG continued; (4) The symptoms were aggravated by additional BCG injections (8/10). (5) This form of arthritis could be differentiated from rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculous, or purulent arthritis by its clinical course and by roentgenograms of the affected joints. Large pores, which are found at many fracture origins, were formed in green bodies through two mechanisms. One is created from the dimple in the powder granules and the other from inadequate cohesion of the granules. Another potential cause of fracture, the large grains, developed from large particles in the green body. The concentration, especially of large pores was found to be quite high. This is clearly responsible for the moderate strength with high Weibull's modulus of the alumina ceramic examined in this study.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
