This nodular, calcified tumor was vascularized by the internal carotid artery and the middle meningeal artery branches. Grossly, it contained several mucoid cysts. Light microscopy showed cords or nests of small cuboidal cells surrounded by a loose connective tissue and desmoplasic areas containing fibers and spindle cells. The cuboidal cells expressed epithelial, neuronal and neuroendocrine markers. Some foci of spindle cells showed glial differentiation. The tumor recurred 16 months later and displayed some characteristics of the small cell neuroepithelial component, mitoses being conspicuous. Electron microscopy revealed undifferentiated clear cells, some containing neurosecretory granules. Karyotyping demonstrated the following formula: 〈 15 〉 46, t(8;11) (q13; q11). The chromosome 11 breakpoint was different from that described in Ewing's sarcoma. This isolated translocation has not been previously reported to our knowledge. These unusual features lead us to report this case and to discuss its pathogenesis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1279-8509Keywords: Ph negative ; CML ; FISH RT-PCR ; BCR-ABL ; b3-a3Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Abstract An atypical case of Ph-negative chronic myeloid leukemia with an acute lymphoblastic leukemia onset and a variant BCR-ABL transcript (b3-a3 junction) is reported. RT-PCR was falsely negative and diagnosis was based upon FISH technique. This molecular variant was characterised by unusual clinical features prolonged benign course, marked platelet sensitivity to interferon alpha and important cyclic hyperleukocytosis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-1203Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyMedicineNotes: Summary Two thousand one hundred and thirty six couples with one or more spontaneous abortions (SAB) before 13 weeks of gestation and with or without one normal liveborn child (NLC) were karyotyped. In 4.31% of the couples one partner was a carrier of a major chromosomal abnormality. Couples with SAB only have 2-fold more chromosomal aberrations than couples with SAB and NLC. A correlation between the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities and the number of SAB was observed. Finally, the various types of chromosome aberrations were analysed.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-1203Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyMedicineNotes: Summary A major chromosomal abnormality was observed in 10.3% of subfertile men in this study. This result is similar to a previous survey using the same criteria for selection of probands. The high frequency of chromosomal abnormalities emphasizes the importance of cytogenetic examination in subfertile men. The detection of such an abnormality should be followed by chromosome analysis in the patient's family. Prenatal diagnosis is indicated if a subfertile man with an abnormal karyotype fathers a child.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
