    Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Entwicklung von öffentlichen Fahrradverleihsystemen - eine Form des Fahrradverleihs, bei dem Fahrräder für die gesamte Öffentlichkeit oder eine bestimmte Gruppe von Nutzern entgeltlich oder auch unentgeltlich im öffentlichen Raum zur Verfügung stehen - und diskutiert die Potenziale und Grenzen dieser relativ jungen Form urbaner Mobilität aus Perspektive des Leitbilds der Nachhaltigkeit. Dazu werden zunächst die unterschiedlichen Modelle und Organisationsformen samt Finanzierung dieser Systeme vorgestellt und die Erfahrungen zu möglichen Problemen sowie Lösungen dieser Probleme zusammengetragen. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt des Beitrags liegt darin, Fahrradverleihsysteme in den Kontext allgemeinerer gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen einzuordnen. Ferner wird aufgezeigt, in welchem Ausmaß Fahrradverleihsysteme eine mögliche Ergänzung der Mobilitätssysteme in ländlichen Gebieten und kleineren Gemeinden darstellen.
    The contribution offers an overview of the evolution of bicycle-sharing systems, a rather recent, environmentally-friendly form of urban mobility that has spread worldwide over recent decades. The potentials and limitations of these systems for sustainable regional development are discussed. To begin with, the article introduces various modes of organisation and reflects on a range of technical and organisational barriers to implementation and their solutions. Bicycle-sharing systems are then discussed in light of broader societal changes. The final part of the paper explores the extent to which bicycle-sharing systems are a suitable option for rural areas and smaller municipalities.

    Die niederländische Regierung verfolgt eine bewährte Verhandlungsstrategie, auch bekannt als Poldermodell, um eine umfassende Transformation des Energiesystems und der Wirtschaft zu erreichen. Neben der Umstrukturierung des Energiesektors und Klimaschutzprojekten erstreckt sich der Ansatz auf die Förderung des Wirtschaftswachstums, nationale und internationale Marktentwicklungen, Technologie- und Innovationspolitik sowie Reformen des Verkehrssektors und Maßnahmen der Arbeitsmarktförderung. 2013 hat die Regierung unter Federführung des Sozialökonomischen Rates (SER) mit verschiedenen Interessengruppen, darunter Gewerkschaften, Arbeitgeberverbände und Umweltverbände, einen Energiepakt für nachhaltiges Wachstum (Energieakkoord) ausgehandelt. Im Jahr 2018 folgten Verhandlungen über einen Klimapakt (Klimaatakkoord) mit Unternehmen, Interessengruppen, den Provinzen und Kommunen. Die umfassende niederländische Politik der Energiewende und das zugrunde liegende Zusammenspiel von Regierungsinitiativen, korporatistischer Interessenvermittlung und Politikberatung kann als Musterbeispiel für ausgehandelte Transformationspolitiken betrachtet werden.
    The Dutch government applies the traditional negotiating strategy, also known as the polder model, to achieve a comprehensive transformation of the energy system and the economy. Beyond the restructuring of the energy sector and climate protection projects, the approach extends to fostering of economic growth, national and international market developments, technology and innovation policies, as well as reforms of the transport sector and development of the labour market. In 2013, the government negotiated an Energy Pact for Sustainable Growth (Energieakkoord) with various interest groups, including trade unions, employers' associations and environmental associations, under the auspices of the Social and Economic Council (SER). In 2018, negotiations with companies, interest groups, provinces and municipalities on a Climate Pact (Klimaatakoord) followed. The comprehensive Dutch policy of energy transformation and its underlying interplay of government initiatives, corporatist interest intermediation and policy advice can be seen as a prime example of negotiated transformation.

    We tested the hypothesis that the biochemical properties of cardiac beta-adrenergic receptors (βAR), as determined by standard in vitro methods, limit physiological responsiveness of dogs to PAR stimulation during peak exercise. Accordingly, we measured oxygen consumption, left ventricular dP/dt at 40 mmHg developed pressure, heart rate, and cardiac output during maximal dynamic exercise in 13 adult mongrel dogs. These studies were followed by biochemical analysis of PAR in membrane homogenates of left ventricle from the same animals using saturation binding and agonist competition curves for [125I] cyanopindolol. There was a substantial range in both biochemical and physiological variables within this population of normal dogs. However, there were no significant correlations between biochemical descriptors of cardiac PAR and any physiological variables measured during exercise. These results suggest that receptor-effector coupling and maximal cardiac performance during intense sympathetic stimulation of peak exercise are limited by factors other than the biochemical properties of cardiac PAR.

    The imbalance of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines plays an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. Shifting this disturbed ratio by means of TNF-antibodies or interferon has been shown to be helpful in treating Crohn's disease and multiple sclerosis, respectively.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉Aim:This pilot study investigated whether interferon-β can induce clinical remission in corticoid-refractory ulcerative colitis.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉Methods:Twenty-five patients with steroid-refractory active ulcerative colitis (Clinical activity index according to Rachmilewitz: 13.5 ± 5.2) were treated in an open pilot trial with 0.5 MIU human natural interferon-β (hn-IFN-β) i.v. (n=18) or 1 MIU recombinant interferon-β-1a (r-IFN-β-1-a) s.c. (n=7) daily with the goal of induction of remission. Subsequent maintenance treatment was carried out for 52.0 ± 78.8 weeks (range 4–336 weeks) with the same dose, three times per week.〈section xml:id="abs1-4"〉〈title type="main"〉Results:Twenty-two of 25 patients (88%) went into remission during induction treatment (hn-IFN-β 16/18, r-IFN-β-1a 6/7). Mean time to response was 3.0 ± 1.3 weeks. Mean length of remission was 13.0 ± 19.7 months. Only eight of 22 patients in remission relapsed during maintenance treatment. Five of these went into remission again after increasing the dose. Adverse events consisted of slight to moderate flu-like symptoms and slight to moderate hair loss in five of 15 female patients.〈section xml:id="abs1-5"〉〈title type="main"〉Conclusion:Although this open pilot study included only a small number of patients, the high response rate suggests that interferon-β may be a safe and effective treatment for steroid-refractory active ulcerative colitis.
