Few alternative types of dye have been investigated. In a prospective study of 30 patients, methylene blue dye was used instead of isosulfan blue dye to localize the sentinel lymph node. The methylene blue dye localization technique was successful in 90% of patients. These results are similar to those for isosulfan blue dye. This study describes methylene blue dye localization as a successful alternative to isosulfan dye in identifying the sentinel node in breast cancer patients. The methylene blue dye technique offers a substantial cost reduction.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1989Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: A fiber bundle treatment for Kaluza–Klein-type geometric unification of gravitation with the bosonic sector of the standard electroweak theory is presented. The most general G-invariant quadratic Lagrangian is constructed explicitly, and it is shown that the Higgs field sector, including the symmetry-breaking potential, arise naturally from torsion in the fiber through an adequate choice of its transformation properties.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: Spinors associated with an eight-dimensional Euclidean space are used for constructing a graded vector representation space for OSp(4/N,R). The underlying geometry fixes both the nature and highest dimensionality of the family of internal symmetry groups of the bosonic subspace, as well as those of the fermionic subspace through an appropriately defined inner product. The basic ingredients of the theory are fermionic variables while the bosonic fields occur as composite quantities made up from an even number of products of the fermionic entities.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1996Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: A general theory of quantum Clifford algebras is presented, based on a quantum generalization of the Cartan theory of spinors. We concentrate on the case when it is possible to apply the quantum-group formalism of bicovariant bimodules. The general theory is then singularized to the quantum SL(n,C) group case, to generate explicit forms for the whole class of braidings required. The corresponding spinor representations are introduced and investigated. Starting from our Clifford algebras we introduce the quantum-Euclidean underlying spaces compatible with different choices of *-structures from where the analogues of Dirac and Laplace operators are built. Using the formalism developed, quantum Spin(n) groups are defined. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The technique used in the reduction allows a simple interpretation of meron-type solutions. The formalism is then used to produce a good simple analytic approximation to static solutions of Skyrme's field equation, relevant to low energy hadronic interactions.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: A space of supertwistors is introduced as a graded vector space by starting with ordinary twistor space multiplied with even Grassmann coefficients and combining it by an othogonal direct sum with a one-dimensional space multiplied with odd Grassmann coefficients. A treatment of the algebraic properties of supertwistor space and of Grassmann-linear transformations on this space lead to a systematic procedure for deriving the structure equations for the graded Lie algebra su (2,2/1).Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7658Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: MathematicsPhysicsNotes: A gauge theory of supergravity which allows one to obtain first-order Lagrangians that are locally gauge invariant by construction is presented. The formalism makes use of supertwistors as a representation space for the construction of a typical fiber of a vector bundle associated with a principal bundle, where the structural group is the super-Poincaré group. The approach proposed provides a means of resolving one of the central problems of gauge field theories of external symmetry groups, that is the satisfactory treatment of translations.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 2003Staff ViewISSN: 1600-0560Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Background: Syringomas have traditionally been categorized as benign neoplasms of the eccrine gland ductal epithelium. However, the variety of clinical presentations reported in the literature and some cases recently observed by the authors cast doubt upon the neoplastic nature of eruptive syringomas. Our goal is to challenge the traditional notion that eruptive syringomas are neoplastic lesions. Results: We observed two patients who presented with an eczematous process, which resolved leaving residual lesions. Biopsies of the late lesions showed features of eccrine syringoma. Yet a biopsy obtained from an incipient lesion in one of the cases showed a lymphocytic inflammatory reaction of the superficial portion of the eccrine duct resulting in tortuous hyperplastic changes. Conclusion: Based on our observations, some of the so-called ‘eruptive syringoma’ may represent a hyperplastic response of the eccrine duct to an inflammatory reaction rather than a true adnexal neoplasm. We proposed the term ‘syringomatous dermatitis’ for such cases.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
