The Karush—Kuhn—Tucker (KKT) conditions can be regarded as optimality conditions for both variational inequalities and constrained optimization problems. In order to overcome some drawbacks of recently proposed reformulations of KKT systems, we propose casting KKT systems as a minimization problem with nonnegativity constraints on some of the variables. We prove that, under fairly mild assumptions, every stationary point of this constrained minimization problem is a solution of the KKT conditions. Based on this reformulation, a new algorithm for the solution of the KKT conditions is suggested and shown to have some strong global and local convergence properties.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Ono et al., Nucl. Fusion 40, 557 (2000)], that has produced low aspect ratio plasmas, R/a∼1.27 at plasma current exceeding 1.4 MA with high energy confinement (TauE/TauE_ITER89P〉2). Toroidal and normalized beta have exceeded 25% and 4.3, respectively, in q∼7 plasmas. The beta limit is observed to increase and then saturate with increasing li. The stability factor βN/li has reached 6, limited by sudden beta collapses. Increased pressure peaking leads to a decrease in βN. Ideal stability analysis of equilibria reconstructed with EFIT [L. L. Lao et al., Nucl. Fusion 25, 1611 (1985)] shows that the plasmas are at the no-wall beta limit for the n=1 kink/ballooning mode. Low aspect ratio and high edge q theoretically alter the plasma stability and mode structure compared to standard tokamak configurations. Below the no-wall limit, stability calculations show the perturbed radial field is maximized near the center column and mode stability is not highly effected by a nearby conducting wall due to the short poloidal wavelength in this region. In contrast, as beta reaches and exceeds the no-wall limit, the mode becomes strongly ballooning with long poloidal wavelength at large major radius and is highly wall stabilized. In this way, wall stabilization is more effective at higher beta in low aspect ratio geometry. The resistive wall mode has been observed in plasmas exceeding the ideal no-wall beta limit and leads to rapid toroidal rotation damping across the plasma core. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Experiments were performed on a bench-scale flat sheet PV unit with a model solution to evaluate separation factor of 6 constituent aroma compounds (1-hexanol, 1-heptanol, trans-2-hexenal, ethyl acetate, linalool, and d-limonene), representing some of typical flavoring ingredients from blueberry juice. The results showed that separation factor was in the range of 70 to 430, depending on molecule size and polarity property of the compounds. Except for 1-heptanol, all compounds showed no significant coupling effect in the mixture system. The effect of temperature was also examined for a given feed-flow rate. ISSN: 1432-0614Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: BiologyProcess Engineering, Biotechnology, Nutrition TechnologyNotes: Abstract Genetic transformation of Wangiella dermatitidis was studied using three plasmid vectors (pAN7-1, pWU44, and pKK5) and both electroporation and polyethyleneglycol-mediated methods. pAN7-1 contains the E. coli hygromycin B (HmB) phosphotransferase (hph) gene. Expression of the hph gene confers resistance to antibiotic HmB. Selection for resistance, indicative of transformation, resulted in 10–203 HmB-resistant colonies/μg pAN7-1 on medium containing 100 μg HmB/ml. Strains of W. dermatitidis used in this study have innate sensitivity to HmB at a critical inhibitory concentration of 20–40 μg/ml. Vectors pWU44 and pKK5 contain a URA5 gene from Podospora anserina. A ura5 auxotroph of W. dermatitidis was transformed to prototrophy with pWU44 or pKK5 by complementation. Transformation frequencies for these two plasmids were between 17–50 transformants/μg vector DNA. Southern blotting analysis and polymerase chain reaction detection of DNA from putative transformants confirmed transformation.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
