    Faraday rotation measurements, performed at 1150 nm wavelength on single-crystal platelets of CoFe2O4 with two different crystallographic orientations [100] and [111], are presented under magnetic fields up to 20 kOe, in the 5–580-K temperature range. A high anisotropy of magnetic origin is observed particularly at low temperatures (T〈230 K) where saturation cannot be obtained along the [111] direction in a 20-kOe magnetic field. The high Faraday rotation measured at 1150 nm and 300 K (−5700°/cm) is about twice that of Bi-substituted garnet films at this wavelength. The results are interpreted on the basis of contributions proportional to the magnetization of each magnetic sublattice.

    Hysteresis losses, Wac, in the core of a monolithic coaxial cable carrying an alternating current of fixed amplitude Iac are predicted to trace a valley as a steady bias current Ibias is superimposed on Iac, when (a) the critical current density jc diminishes with increasing magnetic field H, and/or (b) a Meissner current IM or a surface barrier current ISB opposing flux entry play a role. The predicted Ibias,min where the valley minimum occurs and the value of Wac at the minima are displayed for various IM≥0 and ISB≥0 when jc=α (Bean) and jc=α/H (Kim approximation). © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Measurements of hysteresis losses W(h0, Hb) at several fixed amplitudes h0 versus a static bias magnetic field Hb collinear to h0 and directed along the length or the width of a VTi ribbon which exhibits significant magnetic anisotropy, are reported and are very well reproduced exploiting bulk pinning alone hence neglecting equilibrium diamagnetism and surface barriers. Families of curves of D≡W(h0, Hb)/W(h0,0) vs z≡Hb/h0 at various fixed h0 were calculated for planar and cylindrical geometry, neglecting surface steps, using the simple formulas μ0 jc=dB/dx=α/B, α/B0.5, α/B0.1, α[1−(B/Bc2)], and α/(B+Δ) for the bulk critical current density. For slab geometry and the first four functions listed, the curves of D vs z are independent of h0/H* when h0〈H* (the first full penetration field) and z〈zd with zd dependent on h0/H*. This decoupling of D from h0 occurs when xp, the maximum penetration of the flux disturbance during the cycle of the applied field, does not reach the midplane X. Closed form expressions for W(h0, Hb) developed for slab geometry using dB/dx=α/B confirm this by showing that under these circumstances h0 factors out of the formulas for D. Pursuing the condition xp=X, analytic expressions linking zd and h0/H* are obtained. Graphs of zmin, the locus of the valley minimum and of Dmin, the ratio of Wmin, the losses at the valley minimum to that at Hb=0 are presented. The edge of plateaus displayed by such graphs is determined by letting zmin=zd in the formulas for zd(h0/H*).

    Abstract Three subgroups of kindergarten boys (Stable conduct disordered-hyperaetive (SCDH), Stable conduct disordered (SGD). Stable non deviat control(SC)) were- defined and Followed up three, four and five years later in primary schools. Using assessments From multiple informants (teachers, mothers peers, self), the results showed that SCDH boys were more hyperactive (i.e. overactive inattentive) and displayed a greater diversity of conduct problems in school and home at follow-up compared to other groups. These results, and the fact that during early adolescence SCDH boys tend to develop a worse prognosis than SCD boys suggest that they should be distinguished.
