The electric resistivity decreases with the decrease of temperature and has the minimum point at about 30 K. The maximum decrease of the resistivity is, however, only 2.7% as compared with that at room temperature. The magnetic characteristics in term of the coercive force, the saturation induction, and the maximum permeability are all increased with the decrease of temperature. The coercive force shows the increase of 25% at 4.4 K as compared with that at room temperature; and the saturation induction and the maximum permeability about 15%. The very slight decrease of electric resistivity and the increase of the coercive force with the decrease of temperature promise a high-frequency application of the wire at low temperature. These results led to the fabrication of a multivibrator-type magnetometer being able to work at low temperature below 77 K. The magnetometer has a sensitivity of about 1 mV/mG at room temperature in a magnetic field range between +1 and −1 Oe. The sensitivity change is less than 0.5% even at low temperature of 6 K, as compared with that at room temperature.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Although the readout wave form reproduced using the Faraday effect contained a large noise component, the wave form with same bit period as that of the recorded signal was obtained. The domain pattern observed using a polarized microscope shows obscure boundaries between adjacent magnetized areas. The origin of noise is discussed from the standpoint of dispersion and the refractive index in particulate media. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Magneto-optical properties of Ba-ferrite particulate media were investigated. Faraday rotation and reflectivity were measured for different thicknesses of the magnetic layer, and compared with the predictions of a simple analytical model. The magneto-optical output of the media measured using a laser showed a maximum at a particular thickness. The dependence of the magneto-optical output on thickness is explained on the basis of equations approximating the Faraday rotation and the reflectivity. © 1994 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: We regard a magnetic inverse problem as a spatial optimum allocation problem of currents and use a Hopfield neural network for solving this optimization problem. Because the Hopfield neural network has an initial state problem that the optimum solution cannot be obtained unless an initial state of network is set up suitably, adoption of a genetic algorithm is proposed for solving this initial state problem of Hopfield neural network. The effectiveness of proposed method is confirmed by computational simulations. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
6Effect of magnetic anisotropy of Ba-ferrite particles on squareness of perpendicular recording mediaKishimoto, M. ; Kitahata, S. ; Amemiya, M.

Published 1987Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Magnetic anisotropy constants of Ba-ferrite platelet particles are measured by means of a torque magnetometer, and the magnetic easy direction of the particles is calculated from the anisotropy constants. The squareness in the perpendicular direction of tapes depends on the magnetic easy direction of the particles, and decreases as the magnetic easy direction inclines from the direction perpendicular to the platelet plane to the direction parallel to the platelet plane.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
7Recording characteristics of tapes prepared using iron oxide particles treated with organic titanateAoyama, S. ; Sumiya, K. ; Kishimoto, M. ; Amemiya, M.

Published 1988Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: The adsorption behavior of organic titanate on an iron foil having an ideal iron oxide surface is examined to improve read-write characteristics of particulate magnetic recording media by the surface treatment of iron oxide magnetic particles with organic titanate. Organic titanate significantly reduces the surface hydrophilicity of iron oxide surface of the iron foil. Heat treatment is required to form the chemical bonding between the organic titanate and the iron oxide surface. The method of surface treatment is applied to Co-modified iron oxide particles. As a result, the magnetic properties and surface roughness of the tape are remarkably improved by the increase of dispersibility of particles due to the reduction of hydrophilicity with the organic titanate treatment. The carrier-to-noise ratio (C/N) at the frequency of 6.0 MHz in the tape is increased about 2 dB compared with the tape prepared using untreated particles.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1997Staff ViewISSN: 1600-051XSource: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Abstract Mechanical stimulation with a toothbrush was applied to each quadrant of 10 dogs at a force of 200 g for 10 s using following modalities: vibration at attached gingiva. pressurization at attached gingiva. vibration at marginal gingiva and no treatment as a control. Hemoglobin oxygen saturation (SO2) in the gingiva was measured by non-invasive tissue reflectance spectrophotometry. Simultaneously, oxygen tension (PO2) in gingival tissue was monitored with an oxygen microelectrode. Both SO2 and PO2 increased within 10–20 min after stimulation and then slowly returned to the initial level at all treatment sites. The response was most prominent after vibration at attached gingiva. SO2 and PO2 increased by 12% and 42%. respectively, and significant increase continued for 75–85 min. Response after vibration at marginal gingiva was moderate in PO2 and transient in SO2. Pressurization at attached gingiva caused moderate response in SO2. but the increase in PO2 was slight. Control showed little change in both indices. These results suggest that vibration with a toothbrush at attached gingiva may cause a maximal response in improving oxygen sufficiency to gingival tissue.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1985Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Mössbauer techniques were applied on the two types of tapes, longitudinally and perpendicularly oriented tapes having the coercivity of 300–1500 Oe to evaluate the orientation of particles in tapes. The demagnetizing factor, N, in the perpendicular direction in the tapes was determined by examining the deviation of squareness in the hysteresis curve from the Mössbauer results. In the longitudinally oriented tapes, the squareness agreed with the Mössbauer results by correcting the effect of the demagnetizing field using N=1. In the perpendicularly oriented tapes, the value of N depended on the degree of orientation of particles, and decreased with increasing the degree of orientation of particles in the perpendicular direction.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
