ISSN: 1572-879XKeywords: gold catalysis ; nano-size ; Debye function analysis ; TEMSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Chemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Abstract Using a Debye function analysis, the presence of icosahedral and face centered cuboctahedral gold in a 1 ∶ 1 ratio has been found in freshly prepared Au/Mg(OH)2 catalyst. The results support earlier studies which suggest the icosahedral form to be more stable at small nanometer sizes. Interactions between the gold and the Mg(OH)2 support appear to be weak, with the gold rapidly coagulating over a period of three months. Re-analysis of the aged sample shows the gold to be mainly in the form of truncated decahedra.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The catalyst is significantly active to the methanol decomposition to carbon monoxide and hydrogen at less than 500 K with the apparent activation energy of ca. 80 kJ mol-1 compared with 2 wt% Pd/ZrO2 prepared by the impregnation technique which produces the activation energy of ca. 100 kJ mol-1.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-879XSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Chemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Abstract The influence of the preparation methods on the catalytic activity for CO oxidation was markedly large for Au-TiO2 and negligible for Pt-TiO2 catalysts. Platinum and gold were deposited on TiO2 by deposition-precipitation (DP), photodeposition (FD) and impregnation (IMP). The DP method gave the most active catalysts for both Pt and Au. Gold catalysts prepared by DP were active at temperatures below 273 K and showed a much greater activity than Pt catalysts.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-879XKeywords: CO oxidation ; gold catalyst ; oxidation on goldSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Chemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Abstract In the course of our studies on CO oxidation over Au/Mg(OH)2 we have discovered a catalyst which exhibits an apparent negative activation energy when studied under ultra‐dry conditions (80 ppb moisture content). A review of current literature suggests that the oxidation of CO may occur by a reaction between CO and OH radicals and not by oxygen as previously thought. Substantial differences in catalytic behaviour between low and high temperature suggest that the reaction is complex and that more than one reaction pathway is present.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-879XKeywords: FTIR ; CO adsorption ; CO oxidation ; CO scrambling ; gold supported on ZnO ; isotope exchangeSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Chemistry and PharmacologyNotes: Abstract An FTIR and quadrupole mass study of CO adsorption and oxidation with16O2 and18O2 on Au/ZnO catalysts is presented. The experimental results indicate that: (i) CO is activated by gold in two molecular forms, a linear carbonyl species bonded at terrace Au sites and a carbonyl species bonded to Au peripheral sites; (ii) a band related to CO adsorbed on Au oxidized sites and a scrambling reaction between CO and18O2 indicate that oxygen is also activated on gold sites. The oxygen adsorbed on gold is probably strongly basic, as is the oxygen adsorbed on silver and on copper, and it can easily oxidize CO to CO2.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
