    Abstract Properties ofD mesons produced in the photo-production experiment NA 14/2 at CERN are reported. The following ratios of branching fractions were measured: $$\begin{gathered} Br(D^0 \to K^ + K^ - )/Br(D^0 \to K^ - \pi ^ + ) = 0.16 \pm 0.05, \hfill \\ Br(D^0 \to K^ - \pi ^ + \pi ^0 )/Br(D^0 \to K^ - \pi ^ + ) = 4.0 \pm 0.09 \pm 1.0, \hfill \\ Br(D^0 \to K^ - \pi ^ + \pi ^ + \pi ^ - )/Br(D^0 \to K^ - \pi ^ + ) \hfill \\ = 1.9 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.20 \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ . TheD 0→K − π + π + π − decay was analysed and the contribution of resonant subprocesses found consistent with 1ρ 0 and 0.23 $$\bar K$$ *0 per event. The angular distributions ofD 0→ $$\bar K$$ *0 showed parity violation and destructive interference betweenS- andD-waves. From a Dalitz-plot analysis of the decayD +→K − π + π + the contribution from the quasi two-body decayD +→ $$\bar K$$ *0 π + was measured to be 0.14±0.04±0.04.

    Abstract We report measurements of branching ratios for production of a series of two meson final states in $$\bar p$$ p annihilations at rest in liquid hydrogen. We find: $$\begin{gathered} BR(\bar pp \to \pi ^ + \pi ^ - ) = (3.07 \pm 0.13) \cdot 10^{ - 3} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to K^ + K^ - ) = (0.99 \pm 0.05) \cdot 10^{ - 3} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \pi ^0 \pi ^0 ) = (6.93 \pm 0.43) \cdot 10^{ - 4} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \pi ^0 \eta ) = (2.12 \pm 0.12) \cdot 10^{ - 4} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \pi ^0 \omega ) = (5.73 \pm 0.47) \cdot 10^{ - 3} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \pi ^0 \eta ') = (1.23 \pm 0.13) \cdot 10^{ - 4} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \eta \eta ) = (1.64 \pm 0.10) \cdot 10^{ - 4} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \eta \omega ) = (1.51 \pm 0.12) \cdot 10^{ - 2} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \eta \eta ') = (2.16 \pm 0.25) \cdot 10^{ - 4} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \omega \omega ) = (3.32 \pm 0.34) \cdot 10^{ - 2} \hfill \\ BR(\bar pp \to \omega \eta ') = (0.78 \pm 0.08) \cdot 10^{ - 2} \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ These are the first measurements of the channels ηη′ and ωη′ and in almost all the other channels are more precise than previous results. We also obtain, in a more precise fashion, the following ratios of branching ratios:K + K −/π+π−=0.323±0.013, π0η′/π0η=0.548±0.056, ηη′/ηη=0.31±0.15, ωη′/ωη=0.515±0.040, π0η/π0π0=0.303±0.010, ηη/π0π0=0.232±0.011 and π0ω/ηω=0.377±0.12. The measurements are made for different η and η′ decays, and we thus obtain Γη→3π 0/Γη→γγ=0.841±0.034, and $$\Gamma _{\eta ' \to \gamma \gamma } /\Gamma _{\eta ' \to \pi ^0 \pi ^0 \eta } = 0.091 \pm 0.009$$ .

Abstract This paper presents results on charm photoproduction in the energy interval 40 to 160 GeV, obtained from the high-statistics charm samples of the NA 14/2 experiment at CERN. We measure the charm cross-section, the distributions inx F andp 2 T and various production ratios and charge asymmetries. The total non-diffractive open-charm cross-section per nucleon is measured to be $$\sigma _{(\gamma N \to c\bar cX)} $$ at 〈E γ〉 =100 GeV. We discuss the photoproduction of charm in terms of theoretical and phenomenological models. We compare the measuredp 2 T andx F distributions with first-order QCD calculations of photon-gluon fusion and obtain a value for the charm-quark mass ofm c =1.5 +0.2 −0.1 GeV/c2.

Abstract Inelastic and elasticJ/ψ (3097) photoproduction on Li6 are measured at a mean γ energy of 90 GeV in an open spectrometer. TheJ/ψ are identified by their decays intoμ + μ − ore + e −. A signal of ψ′(3685) intoμ + μ − andJ/ψπ + π − is also seen. The inelastic cross-section withZ=E ψ/Eγ〈0.9 is compared in shape and magnitude with the colour singlet model of photon-gluon fusion.

    Abstract Using a high-statistics sample of more than 1000 reconstructed charmed-particle decays, the lifetimes of the weakly decaying charmed mesons and of theΛ c + baryon have been measured: $$\begin{gathered} \tau _{D^ + } = 1.03 \pm 0.08 + 0.06 ps,\tau _{D^0 } = 0.417 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.015 ps \hfill \\ \tau _{D_s^ + } = 0.33_{ - 0.08}^{ + 0.12} \pm 0.03 ps,\tau _{\Lambda _c^ + } = 0.18 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03 ps. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

Abstract We report the first observations of Pontecorvo reactions of the type ¯pd →Xn. We fully reconstruct the outgoing meson and, for antiprotons stopped in liquid deuterium, we measure: BR(¯pd→π0)=(7.03±0.72)×10−6, BR(¯pd→ηn)=(3.19+0.48)×10−6, BR(¯pd→ωn)=(22.8+4.1)×10−6, BR(¯pd→η′n)14×10−6 (at 95% confidence level). Assuming charge independence, our result for¯ pd→π0n is compatible with measurements of the only other observed Pontecorvo reaction ¯pd → π−p. The experimental ratios between the above branching ratios are in fair agreement with both the statistical model and dynamical two-step models (assumingN¯ N annihilation into two mesons, with subsequent absorption of one meson on the remaining nucleon). This agreement suggests that there may be appreciable rates for Pontecorvo reactions producing final state mesons with masses above 1 GeV.
