Published 1987Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: A new approach to the design of a fiber-optic interface that links a commercial sampling head to its matching time-domain reflectometer (TDR)/sampler oscilloscope plug-in unit is reported. Three fiber-optic links replace the wired signal paths of the original design that convey the vertical error signal, the feedback signal, and the horizontal sampling command signal between the sampling head and the oscilloscope sampling plug-in. The dielectric fiber pigtails allow the use of the sampling head inside objects that need to be electromagnetically insulated from the instrumentation system. Low-frequency analog links are used to convey the error and feedback signals. The sampling command signal is conveyed via a link where a powerful, fast-rise infrared laser pulse is generated. The laser pulse is used to trigger an avalanche transistor in the strobe generator circuit of the sampling head by directly coupling the optical energy to the transistor chip. This direct method of detection minimizes the time jitter introduced to the strobe signal, resulting in a bandwidth of 4 GHz. Some of the results of the tests which were carried out on the system are reported.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1573-7381Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Summary We examined the distribution of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor clusters in relation to synaptic sites on autonomic neurons in the frog heart using immunofluorescence techniques and laser scanning confocal microscopy. Acetylcholine receptor clusters were visualized using the rat anti-Electrophorus acetylcholine receptor monoclonal antibody no. 22 and cyanine 3.18-labelled goat anti-rat secondary antibody. Synaptic boutons were labelled with the mouse anti-synaptic vesicle protein SV2, monoclonal antibody no. 10h and cyanine 5.18-labelled goat anti-mouse secondary antibody. Acetylcholine receptor clusters on the neuronal surface exist in two populations that vary in size, staining intensity, and surface distribution. The more prominent population consists of large, brightly stained clusters numbering 30±15 per cell, while the second class is smaller and less brightly stained and numbers over 100 per cell. The large clusters tend to be organized into groups of 2–6 members. This arrangement results from the fact that 80% of the large clusters colocalize at synaptic boutons and that single boutons can have several associated clusters. The remaining 20% of large/bright acetylcholine receptor clusters are extrasynaptic, but they, too, are clustered and are found in close proximity to synaptic boutons. The small/dim acetylcholine receptor clusters are randomly distributed over the cell surface. The large/bright synaptic acetylcholine receptor clusters presumably underlie fast excitatory synaptic transmission. The small/dim clusters and the large/bright extrasynaptic clusters may represent intermediates in the metabolism of large/bright synaptic clusters.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-9559Keywords: Grid oscillator array ; Spatial power combining ; Edge element effectsSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract Results of an experimental study on finite grid oscillator arrays and the effects of the edge element loading stubs in such arrays are presented. Three finite grid oscillator arrays, based on the same unit cell, with different number of unit were fabricated on RT/Duroid 5870 substrate and tested in terms of the oscillation frequencies, radiated power and radiation patterns. It is observed that the oscillation frequency of a finite grid array differs from the theoretically prediction based on the infinite array assumption and is strongly affected by the edge element loading stubs. The measurement also indicates that mode-jumping and multi-frequency (spurious) oscillation can exist in grid oscillator arrays.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
