Hence, there exists a natural representation of the U(1)-invariant vector fields on M×U(1) extending the gauge representation into the Lie algebra of vector fields on T*(M). It is proved herein that a differential form on T*(M) is invariant under this representation (resp. gauge invariant) if and only if it belongs to the R-algebra [resp. to the Ω (overdot) (M)-algebra] generated by the canonical symplectic form of the cotangent bundle.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

We establish thereby a link between the multipole moments of the source and an "observable" quantity. Special attention deserves the case of the γ-metric. As an extension of this result we also present the corresponding expressions for some stationary space–times. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1999Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: We have constructed a simple, improved apparatus for calibrating strain gauges down to liquid helium temperatures to permit an estimate of the repeatability and linearity of commercially available, batch produced, metal foil strain gauges. The apparatus is based upon an original design first proposed by McClintock [R. M. McClintock, Rev. Sci. Instrum. 30, 715 (1959)]. Calibrations performed on a particular batch produced metal foil strain gauge indicate that it behaved ideally at low temperatures. Although the gauge resistance was strongly temperature dependent, the gauge factor was virtually independent of temperature and did not display any detectable nonlinearity or hysteresis. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Phys. 81, 2973 (1997)], we show that the compromise function C(cursive-epsilon) between high power output and low entropy production for CAN engines, proposed in that article to find the best ecological function, is not tautological. Moreover, this procedure is useful to construct the best ecological function for any heat transfer law used in endoreversible thermal engine models. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1994Staff ViewISSN: 1077-3118Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: In this letter we report on cubic CdS thin films with low resistivity by chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique and subsequent annealings in S2 and H2+In. Low temperature photoluminescence, x rays, and transmission spectra support the assumption that S2 annealings contribute to fill the vacancies in the as-deposited films leading to an enlargement of the CdS cubic cell. This fact is revealed by an increase in interplanar distances, evanescence of the PL red broad band, and decrease in band-gap energies. Cubic phase remains after H2+In annealing at higher temperatures. A resistivity as low as 11 Ω cm was obtained at an optimum annealing temperature of 350 °C.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The initial population of this study was a BC2F1 from a cross between a well adapted and a high oil cultivar. Transgressive segregation for yield and oil content producing lines with considerably higher values than the better parent was observed in BC2F4 and BC2F5 generations. These results and the great saving of time and effort makes the SSD method a very desirable tool for safflower breeders.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
