Two examination sets containing a total of 50 volunteers were compared to establish interexaminer agreement. Measures of gingival recession, tooth mobility, calculus accumulation, and plaque accumulation exhibited high interexaminer correlation. The measures of periodontal pocket depth and gingival health also showed good levels of agreement, but reflected the examination order; the second examiner consistently scored more severe disease because of the invasive nature of these measures. Establishment of the reproducibility of periodontal pathology measurements is essential for studies which involve more than one examiner. This investigation demonstrated a high confidence level of reproducibility for the six measures utilized and showed that recalibration enhanced the initial training procedure and increased examiner agreement above the initial level.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1095-8649Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: BiologyNotes: Studies were conducted on the effect of clomiphene on ovulation and spawning in mature C. carpio pre-treated with indomethacin. It was demonstrated that indomethacin caused a block to ovulation and spawning at two dose levels (5 and 10 μg−1g). This blockade could be overcome by two (10 μg−1g each) successive dosages of clomiphene given 7 and 31 h after the indomethacin treatment. When indomethacin and clomiphene treatments were given concomittantly, the inhibitory effects of indomethacin remained more pronounced.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 2001Staff ViewISSN: 1365-2036Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Delayed-release mesalazine is traditionally taken as three divided doses. However, it is well-recognized that dosing frequency has a significant impact on compliance and that once daily dosing is preferable.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉Methods:We measured serum, urinary, faecal and rectal tissue concentrations of 5-aminosalicylic acid and N-acetyl 5-aminosalicylic acid in 24 healthy volunteers following dosing with delayed-release mesalazine, 1.2 g or 2.4 g daily, given as either a single daily dose at 08:00 hours or in three divided doses at 08:00, 13:00 and 18:00 hours.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉Results:Urinary and faecal excretion and rectal tissue concentrations of 5-aminosalicylic acid and N-acetyl 5-aminosalicylic acid were similar following single or divided daily dosing, at both doses studied. Peak serum concentrations were found at 06:00–09:00 following divided dosing and at 17:00–20:00 following once daily dosing. However, peak and trough serum levels and serum area under curve values (AUC) were similar with both regimens and at both doses.〈section xml:id="abs1-4"〉〈title type="main"〉Conclusions:Urinary, faecal and rectal tissue concentrations are similar following single or divided daily dosing. Minor differences in serum levels were apparent but maximum, minimum and AUC values were similar. Clinical trials should examine the efficacy and toxicity of once daily dosing in patients with ulcerative colitis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

LH alone and in combination with FSH was more effective than FSH in stimulation of steroidogenesis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1573-2878Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MathematicsNotes: Abstract A general formulation of cutoff optimization methods in infinite-dimensional spaces is given. Various convergence aspects of these methods are proved under general assumptions. The concept of strong and weak convergence is studied. Estimates of convergence rates under certain assumptions are obtained. Applications to optimal control theory and approximation theory are illustrated.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
