ISSN: 1434-601XSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract The applicability of neutron activation analysis to the determination of copper impurities in ZnS has been investigated. The sensitivity of the method has been determined and the method of chemical separation, which is neccessary after irradiating the samples, is outlined. Because of the disturbing nuclear reaction Zn-64 (n, p) Cu-64 the sensitivity of the method does not only depend on the absolute amount of copper atoms available but also on the concentration of Cu in zinc sulphide. Using a thermal neutron flux of 3×1011 cm−2 sec−1, a ratio of thermal to resonance flux (gold)Φ th/Θ=30 and a copper concentration of 1×10−4g Cu/g ZnS, it is possible to determine amounts of Cu as small as 3×10−8 g. Increasing the neutron flux means to improve the sensitivity of the analysis. Increased moderation of the neutron flux makes the analysis of ZnS with smaller copper contents possible (limiting value when using the Berlin Reaktor BER: 5×10−7 g Cu/g ZnS, withΦ th/Θ=8000).Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The replicas demonstrate gap junctions in the area of contact of apposed supporting cells. They are located in the upper portion of the cells near to the reticular membrane and—mainly —at the cell's body. Furthermore they are visible between processes of the cells of Deiters, surrounding the axons partly.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1434-4726Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Summary A study of the chinchilla inner ear by use of the freezefracture method. Between the flat and extended perilymphatic cells near to the bone there were demonstrated junctional complexes closing the intercellular space; maculae communicantes connect these cells. In comparison to similar studies of the cochlear perilymphatic tissue and the arachnoidea these structures confirm the cochlear perilymphatic barrier — as described before — and they are considered as part of the arachnoidea, which is continuated in both areas of the inner ear.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1434-4726Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Summary Description of a new nuclear medical method permitting the application of radioisotopes for otologic diagnosis. It is made possible by use of an specially constructed pinhole collimator for the Anger-camera. The evaluation is done by aid of a special Fortran IV computer program. For the ear scintigraphy the bone-seeking radiopharmacon 99mTc-MDP is applied, and, thus, patients suffering from operatively confirmed otosclerosis exhibit hot spots of the radioisotope in the regions of the oval and the round window or of the cochlea respectively. This method, for the first time, enables in vivo studies of the metabolic activity of otosclerotic foci in all the bony labyrinthine wall.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
