    Notes:
Common density functional theories often use the so-called mean-field approximation to the attractive term of the free energy, which is not accurate when compared with molecular dynamics simulations. We applied a modification of this attractive free energy term of a local density functional approach where an analytical representation of the radial distribution function is taken into account. A cutoff Lennard-Jones-12-6 potential, divided according to the Weeks–Chandler–Andersen prescription, is used as the intermolecular interaction force model. This density functional perturbation approach gives the correct phase quilibrium and predicts a surface tension in excellent agreement with recent molecular dynamics simulations. The surface tension of some pure simple fluids is predicted from an intrinsic contribution, obtained by the modified density functional perturbation theory, plus contributions due to capillary wave roughening of the surface. The respective Lennard-Jones potential parameters were obtained from fitting to saturated liquid densities of the pure fluids. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Abstract We investigate holomorphic self-maps of complex manifolds of the formG/Γ whereG is a complex Lie group and Γ a lattice. We show that they are induced by automorphisms ofG and that a surjective holomorphic self-map can be nonbijective only in the directions of the nilradical ofG.

    Description / Table of Contents:
Summary Since the mid 1950's the populations of rabbits have been reduced by myxomatosis. After 1979, however, a marked recovery was evident. An analysis of the hunting quotients in all hunting districts and cities in the state of Northrhine-Westfalia showed evidence of three similar epidemics but clear differences among the reactions of the various rabbit populations to the disease. For example, the highly populated district Kleve showed mortality rates of less than 30 % to more than 90 % (Tabs. 7 and 8) during the hunting year 1988/89. From July 1988 to April 1989 104 rabbits were investigated from 4 different areas (Tab. 2). From 80 wild rabbits 124 organ samples and 27 serum samples were tested for the presence of the myxomatosis virus. No virus of any kind could be isolated from any of the organ samples. Two of the serum samples neutralized the myxomatosis virus. Hence the decline of the rabbit populations can not solely be ascribed to myxomatosis. The bacteriological (Tab. 3), histological (Tab. 4), and parasitological (Tab. 5) results provided no evidence for an unusual disease level among the animals. The detailed investigations of the ovaries and testes of 32 rabbits, as well as the analysis of the levels of lead and cadmium in the livers and kidneys of 29 rabbits (Tab. 6) could not definitely prove the possibility of diminished fertility. Other possible causes of the decline in rabbit populations such as weather conditions, food supply, and predator pressure are discussed.
    Abstract:

Abstract A new equation of state (EOS) is proposed for the Helmholtz energyF of the Lennard Jones fluid which represents the thermodynamic properties over a wide range of temperatures and densities. The EOS is written in the form of a generalized van der Waals equation.F =F u +F v. WhereF u is a hard body contribution andF A an anttractive dispersion force contribution. The expression forF H is closely related to the hybrid Barker Henderson pertubation theory. The construction ofF A is accomplished with the Setzmann Wagner optimization procedure on the basis of virial coefficients and critically assessed computer simulation data. A comparison with the EOS of Johnson et al. shows improvement in the description of the vapor liquid coexistence properties, thepvT data. and in peculiar, of the calorie properties. A comparison with the EOS of Kolafa and Nezbeda which appeared after the bulk of this work was finished shows still by about 30%.

    Notes:
Abstract Molecular dynamics simulation results in the isochoric isothermal ensemble are reported for a two-center Lennard Jones model of fluid nitrogen characterized by the fixed molecular elongationL = 1σ = 0.3292, New values ofε andσ were determined by fitting the vapor pressure and the saturated liquid density of the model to experimental data at 94,67 K. The required vapor liquid equilibrium data of the model were taken from a study using the NpT + test particle method. The resulting values areε k = 36.32013 K (36.673 K) andσ = 0.32973 nm (0.33073 nm), with values in parentheses being those obtained previously from a Weeks Chandler Andersen-type perturbation theory. Then pressures and internal energies were calculated by molecular simulations for 110 state points in the temperature range from 72 to 330 K and for densities up to 35 mol · L1. Comparison of the predictions based on the new parameters with the empirical equation of state of Jacobsen et al. shows good to excellent agreement except in the near-critical region. Moreover. for almost all state points the new parameters yield an improvement over old ones from perturbation theory.
