However, currently available formulations contain chlorofluorocarbons which are due to be phased out in the near future. The objective of this study was therefore to determine the degree of dispersion of a newly developed nonchlorofluorocarbon rectal foam preparation in ulcerative colitis patients. Methods: This was an open label non-controlled study of a single administration of a mesalazine foam enema (two actuations containing 2 g of mesalazine in approximately 120 mL foam) in 10 patients with quiescent ulcerative colitis. Spreading of the 99mTc-labelled foam enema was assessed over a 4-h period by the non-invasive technique of gamma scintigraphy. Results: All patients retained the enema for the full 4-h imaging period. In nine out of the 10 patients, the enema was observed to spread as far as the descending colon and on average 23% of the dose was present in the descending colon at 4 h post-dose. Conclusions: The extent of spreading observed in the study supports the use of the formulation in the treatment of left sided ulcerative colitis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1573-059XKeywords: Brand names ; memory ; associative network theorySource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: EconomicsNotes: Abstract The research focuses on the degree of association between brand names and accompanying visuals featured on packages to improve consumer learning. It was found that when visuals are associated with the target information (such as a brand name), then memory for the brand is enhanced. It was also found that memory will be greater for brand names that are prior-associated in consumers' memory than for family and novel brand names. The findings are congruent with associative network theory that would suggest easier processing and greater memory for target elements that are prior- and/or visually linked to existing memory pathways.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Polyclonal antibodies against two cytochromes P-450, i.e., C27 sidechain cleavage enzyme and 11 beta-hydroxylase, were used to study the distribution of these enzymes in cryosections of the adrenal cortex. Ultrathin cryosections were evaluated by both protein-A/gold/silver immunocytochemistry and immunielectron microscopy using double labeling with protein-A/colloidal-gold. At light microscopy, the two cytochrome P-450 enzymes were found to be broadly distributed in both the fasciculata and glomerulosa zones of the adrenal cortex. Quantitative immunoelectron microscopy revealed that both enzymes were localized only in mitochondria, in which they were present on the inner aspects of the inner mitochondrial membrane. Both cytochromes P-450 were demonstrable in all of the mitochondria examined, and statistical evaluation of the ratios of the two enzymes present in individual mitochondria yielded a normal distribution curve. Since no evidence was found for the preferential localization of either enzyme in a special population of mitochiondria, we conclude that all mitochondria of the adrenal cortex contain both enzymes. We discuss implications of these findings with respect to the regulation of steroidogenesis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

This spin dependence is quite sensitive to the induced pseudoscalar form factor,F P, a piece of the weak charged nuclear current of3He about which, experimentally, relatively little is known. The data are presently being analyzed and we plan to quote a number forF P shortly.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Notes: Summary A two-stage liquid-liquid partition method has been proposed to purify polyoxyethylated alkylphenol surfactants. The partition selectively removes impurities from the most hydrophobic and the most hydrophilic ends of the mixture of surfactant molecules without affecting the original distribution of surfactant molecules. Evidence of purity has been obtained by light scattering and surface activity measurement on aqueous solutions of the purified surfactant and the results correlate with a postulated statistical model.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
