With the aid of a computerized melanoma register, in which pregnancy data can be recorded, 290 women with melanoma were reviewed (249 alive and 41 dead). Overall, 23 patients were pregnant at ithe time of diagnosis of melanoma, and another 23 became pregnant at some time after primary treatment of a melanoma. Pregnancy appears to have no significant influence on the survival of patients with melanoma J but it is recommended that pregnancy should be avoided for the first three years following excision of a melanoma.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1365-2559Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: A review of 955 patients with primary oesophageal carcinoma treated in this hospital revealed 23 cases of small cell anaplastic carcinoma of the oat cell type. Fifteen were females and eight were males. In each case the histological appearances were identical to those of the oat cell carcinoma which is much more commonly encountered in the lung. In none of these cases was there any evidence of a primary oat cell carcinoma outside the oesophagus. Argyrophilic granules were seen in three cases and granules of the neurosecretory type were present in five. We conclude that neither of these findings is a prerequisite for making a diagnosis of oesophageal oat cell carcinoma. The histogenesis of this tumour is reviewed and briefly discussed.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1365-2559Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Reticulin patterns were examined in 25 consecutive malignant melanomas, 25 benign cellular naevi and 10 Spitz (benign juvenile) naevi. Absolute features were that a completely intact basement membrane was a strong indicator of benignity and that pericellular reticulin was evidence of subsequent benign behaviour. In routine circumstances, however, the stain was of little diagnostic use, as the borderline cases on haematoxylin and eosin staining were not made any easier to categorize by reticulin stain.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
