Both the shape and steady rise speed of the drop are deduced as a function of the interfacial tension. The analysis demonstrates that the drop assumes the form of the prolate ellipsoidal figure of revolution which would arise in the absence of any relative motion in the surrounding fluid. The hydrodynamic drag on the drop follows simply from the analysis of Moore and Saffman [J. Fluid Mech. 31, 635 (1968)], who considered the equivalent motion of a rigid particle. The rise speed of a deformed inviscid drop is approximately one-half that of an identically shaped rigid particle; in particular, the rise speed of a spherical inviscid drop is 0.41 that of a rigid sphere.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-0738Keywords: Key words Trimethylolpropane esters Triarylphosphate ; Tricresyl phosphate Trimethylolpropane phosphate ; Neurotoxin ; Pilot scale incinerationSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Abstract The high-temperature combustion of synthetic ester turbine engine lubricants has been performed by diluting the lubricant 5, 15, or 25% in diesel fuel and burning the mixture in a pilot-scale boiler facility. The effluent gas from this combustion system was carefully monitored for the formation of a potent neurotoxin, trimethylolpropane phosphate (TMPP). Although TMPP was not detected in the gaseous effluent, elevated levels of the neurotoxin were found in scrapings from the inside of the boiler system. Because of the extreme toxicity of this compound, significant dermal exposure could be a potential risk to incinerator operation and maintenance personnel.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Of these 11 show parity violation effects larger than 2 standard deviations, making parity violation a rather common phenomenon. Parity mixing up to 10% has been found. The root-mean squared matrix elements for parity violation derived from these resonances are M=0.58 (+0.50/-0.25) meV for238U, respectively 1.39 (+0.35/-0.38) meV for232Th.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1573-0891Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Political ScienceEconomicsNotes: Abstract The concept of health involves two dimensions: The level of function at a point in time and the probability of transition to other levels at future times. By applying measured social values to the distribution of the population among a set of levels, a Function Status Index aptly summarizes the Level-of-Well-Being of a population at a point in time. By incorporating empirically determined transition probabilities into a simple stochastic model, a Quality-Adjusted Life Expectancy can be computed that approximates a comprehensive social indicator for health. The indicators possess the statistical properties required for time series and interpopulation comparisons, for studying outcomes and quality of medical care, and for health system optimization in planning and policy analysis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
