[Auszug] We describe an assay system for the identification of site-specific proteases. The assay is based on a protein substrate that is immobilized on ceramic beads. After incubation with cell homogenates, the beads are washed and digested with endoproteinase Lys-C to liberate a defined set of ...

[Auszug] One challenge in condensed-matter physics is the experimental confirmation of a new kind of elementary excitation — orbital waves, or orbitons, which are predicted to exist in an orbitally ordered state. Saitoh et al. have observed three peaks at 160, 144 and 126 meV in the Raman ...

[Auszug] Interacting conduction electrons are usually described within Fermi-liquid theory, which states that, in spite of strong interactions, the low-energy excitations are electron-like quasiparticles with charge and spin. In recent years there has been tremendous interest ...

[Auszug] One leading candidate theory of high-temperature superconductivity in the copper oxide systems is the interlayer tunnelling (ILT) mechanism. In this model, superconductivity is created by tunnelling of electron pairs between the copper oxide planes — contrasting with other models in which ...

    Notes:
Abstract Enterprise design knowledge is currently descriptive, ad hoc, or pre-scientific. One reason for this state of affairs in enterprise design is that existing approaches lack an adequate specification of the terminology of the enterprise models, which leads to inconsistent interpretation and uses of knowledge. We use the formal enterprise models being developed as part of the Toronto Virtual Enterprise (TOVE) project to provide a precise specification of enterprise structure, and use this structure to characterize process integration within the enterprise. We then use the constraints within the enterprise model to define a special class of enterprises, and discuss the concepts necessary to characterize process integration within this class. The results of this paper arose out of the successful application of these ontologies to the analysis of the IBM Opportunity Management Process in a joint project with IBM Canada.

    Description / Table of Contents:
    Notes:
Summary The time-dependent acellular, destructive changes in erythrocytes was investigated in rabbits by subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and subdural implantation of blood-filled diffusion chambers with 0.45 μm pores. The animals were killed at various intervals after implantation (7–24 h), and the erythrocytes in the capsules were examined by light and electron microscopy. The findings were quantified by counting 100 cells per preparation under the light microscope; changes in both matrix and membrane structure were recorded. Matrix changes and membrane variants were specified by electron microscopy. Time-dependent changes in erythrocyte matrix and membrane were established, which occurred at the various localizations in an identical sequence, but with different time intervals. The destructive changes were: an increase in loss of matrix, increase in membrane permeability, and decrease in membrane stability. The physiologic bases of and the conclusions for wound timing were discussed.

Zusammenfassung An 100 mit Petein (49%), Lumivol (33%) und Na- bzw. KBr.
