ISSN: 1572-9613Keywords: Extended irreversible thermodynamics ; relaxation times ; constitutive equations ; conserved and nonconserved variables ; entropy balance equation Boltzmann equation ; moment method ; Burnett equationsSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract The basic postulates of the extended irreversible thermodynamics are derived from the kinetic model for a dilute monoatomic gas. Using the Grad 13-moment method to solve the full nonlinear Boltzmann equation for molecules conceived as soft spheres we obtain the microscopic expressions for the entropy flux, the entropy production, and the generalized Pfaffian for the extended definition of entropy as required by such a theory. Some of the physical implications of these results are discussed.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1572-9532Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: PhysicsNotes: Abstract Using the Ma interpretation of 5D Wesson gravity, we construct the corresponding Weyl equation in a quasistatic spherically symmetric gravitational background in order to look at the mass term predicted by the theory. We find that the value of this mass depends strongly on the boundary conditions selected for theg55. As an example we calculate its value at the surface of the earth.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
