The apparent molecular weights of the DPH- specific substrate proteins were 60-63,000 and 49-52,000, and were designated proteins DPH-L and DPH-M, respectively. DPH decreased both the initial rate and the net level of [32P] phosphate incorporation from [γ-32P] ATP into proteins DPH-L and DPH-M. The concentrations of DPH required to produce a half maximal decrease in the levels of phosphorylation of proteins DPH-L and DPH-M was 3 × 10-4 and 8 × 10 -4 M, respectively. The effects of DPH on the incorporation of [32P] phosphate into these specific brain proteins were independent of the concentration of ATP over a wide range of ATP concentrations. The DPH-specific proteins were demonstrated to be present in synaptosomal preparations. The results are compatible with the hypothesis that some of the stabilizing actions of DPH on neuronal tissue and seizure discharge may be mediated by the effect of this anticonvulsant on the phosphorylation of specific brain protein substrates.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1471-4159Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: MedicineNotes: Adrenalectomy in the rat was shown to lower seizure threshold measured with the volatile convulsant hexafluorodiethyl ether. Although the expected hyponatraemia and hyperkalaemia were demonstrated in the adrenalectomized rats, there was no associated alteration in Na-K stimulated Mg-ATPase activity either in the whole rat brain or in a microsomal fraction. These results in brain tissue are contrasted with the marked decrease in this enzyme that occurs in kidney tissue of the rat following adrenalectomy. It was suggested that the activity of the enzyme system responsible for active cation transport responds directly in proportion to the work of active transport required by the individual tissue.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Our analysis is based on integrated luminosities of 46.2 pb−1 taken at the υ (1 S) resonance and 42.1 pb−1 taken in the neighboring continuum. We measure the inclusive π0 and ŋ spectra for direct υ (1 S) → 3g decays and continuum processes $$e^ + e^ - \to q\bar q$$ and obtain the following mean particle multiplicities per event: $$\begin{array}{*{20}c} {Continuum:} \\ {\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\left\langle {n_{\pi ^0 } } \right\rangle = 3.64 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.36} & {\left\langle {n_\eta } \right\rangle = 0.22 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.03} \\ \end{array} } \\ {\Upsilon (1S) \to 3g:} \\ {\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\left\langle {n_{\pi ^0 } } \right\rangle = 3.39 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.34} & {\left\langle {n_\eta } \right\rangle = 0.35 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.04.} \\ \end{array} } \\ \end{array}$$ We compare our results with predictions of different fragmentation models and with other measurements performed ine + e − annihilation at similar center-of-mass energies.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
