The velocity distributions modified by the cooling laser are calculated under different boundary conditions and a new experimental approach, which permits to obtain a sharp edge laser bandwidth, is taken into consideration. Finally, the preliminary experimental results on a sodium beam cooled by a lamp laser are reported.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The effective trapping schemes and the collection efficiency have been experimentally measured and calculated by solving an original 3D model. This model considers the whole bunch of the 32 ground and excited (P1/2 + P3/2) Zeeman sublevels, the actual trap geometry, the magnetic field intensity and direction, the light polarization, and evaluates both the velocity capture range and the number of trapped particles N. Synergetic and competition mechanisms due to the trapping and repumping lasers have been predicted and experimentally observed. The model simulation has been compared with the results reported in the literature and with those obtained by us and a quite good agreement has been found. The model can be easily adapted to the other sodium isotopes as well as to all the other alkalis.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

LIAD is a non-thermal phenomenon and it can be observed even with very weak light intensities. We show that the simultaneous contribution to the photo-emission of atoms adsorbed both at the film surface and within the film must be taken into account in order to fit the experimental data. We demonstrate that both the desorption efficiency and the diffusion coefficient of the alkali atoms embedded in the dielectric film depend on the desorbing light intensity. These features characterize a new class of photo-induced phenomena whose analysis gives new insights in the comprehension of the atom-surface interaction and of the atom-bulk diffusion and opens interesting perspectives for applications.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

They allow for a very large velocity capture range by maintaining the same cooling rate allowed by the single mode lasers. A large fraction of the circulating ions are expected to be cooled both in coasting and bunched beams. The device, which does not use an active medium, can easily operate at any frequency from UV to IR spectral region.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The ions are simultaneously excited by a ultrashort pulsed laser (≃ 1 ps) at two different locations along the beam and fluorescence is detected by a group of four photomultipliers. Correlation in fluorescence signals is a firm indication that the ion beam has an ordered structure.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The use of a broad-band laser provides a radiation pressure force with wide velocity capture range and high magnitude, which is promising to improve the performance of both longitudinal and indirect transverse cooling. This wide-range force could also be suitable for direct transverse cooling of low-density beams.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

The obtained spectrum is particularly suitable for laser cooling when a large velocity capture range is required as in the case, for example, of ions confined in a storage ring.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Notes: Abstract We present a series of 36 surgically treated spinal meningiomas, emphasising that the complaints of a patient with spinal meningioma are too often misinterpreted and ascribed to other, more common, affections of the spine such as spondyloarthrosis or disc prolapse. CT scanning and myelography should be used more routinely, in order to reduce the delay in diagnosing a spinal meningioma. Excision of the dural attachment is not always essential to avoid recurrences.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
