Pregrowth annealing was found to result in improved crystalline quality of the seed surface. The predominant acceptor impurity on the annealed substrate surface and in the initial epitaxial region (1200 A(ring)) was shown to be carbon. The major acceptor impurity in thicker epilayers further away from the substrate interface was determined to be Zn. Silicon was also identified from the PL spectra, though its concentration might be much smaller than that of zinc. No deep level impurities were observed in this material. Most important of all, the highly resolved exciton PL spectrum demonstrated that excellent quality InP comparable to the best material grown by vapor phase epitaxy could be grown by LPMOCVD without the need for phosphine cracking.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

These lines are proposed as a possible solution for the equatorial low-field-side system and as a part (receiver-vacuum vessel) of the transmission lines for the high-field side and the out-of-midplane reflectometer system, because of their restricted access. Theoretical and experimental studies show the good properties of these lines: low losses, a smooth characteristic transmission, and a very low level of parasitic reflections. Quasioptical systems are also proposed as a solution for the coupling of several microwave emitter receivers, working in a fundamental waveguide, into a single broadband corrugated line. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1089-7623Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsElectrical Engineering, Measurement and Control TechnologyNotes: Atomic hydrogen and deuterium in the plasma of a magnetic multipole source are investigated with respect to the fraction of the atomic component and the energy distribution of the atoms. Information is obtained by analysis of the wings of the optically thick Lyman-α transitions, and by admixture of small amounts of the other isotope as a thermometer gas in order to warrant transparency in the center of the line. The atom to molecule density ratio is found to be around 15%; the analysis of the energy distributions yields a dominant cold component (Tcold∼400 K), a hot component (Thot(approximately-greater-than)2000 K) which comprises about 20% of the atoms, and a small but significant amount of fast atoms, described by Tfast with energies up to several eV; the relative amount of these atoms is below 1%. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1988Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: Performance of graded-index separate-confinement heterostructure single quantum well lasers especially designed for cw optical-pumping applications is reported and is compared to that of conventional double-heterostructure devices. The quantum well devices have the advantage of lower threshold current, higher slope efficiency, and can be operated at longer cavity lengths, leading to lower diode-series resistance and reduced cooling requirements. Quantum wells of aluminum composition ranging from 6.7% to 12% and thicknesses of 12 and 20 nm were investigated. Useful lasing wavelengths between 780 and 820 nm were achieved.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
