Publication Date: 2018-07-27Description: Qualitativ Forschende haben ihre Verfahren kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt, häufig infolge technologischer Neuerungen, die ihnen erlaubten, ihre Daten in verbesserter Weise zu erheben, zu analysieren und zu präsentieren bzw. die Perspektiven der Forschungsteilnehmer/innen authentischer in die Forschung und in deren Reflexion einzubeziehen. Ausgehend von historischen Situationen, in denen sich methodischer Wandel vollzogen hat, versuchen wir zu zeigen, dass sich derzeit ein neuer Wandel abzeichnet, der besonders die Transkription von Audio- und Videodaten betrifft. Wir plädieren in diesem Zusammenhang für die Nutzung der Vorzüge neuer Technologien, die erlauben, multimediale Daten zu sammeln, zu untersuchen und in Forschungsberichte einzubinden, um so dem mit Transkriptionen verbundenen Bias und Bedeutungsverlust entgegenzuwirken. Mit Originaldaten in einem multimedialen Format (Audio oder Video) zu arbeiten, statt diese Daten zu transkribieren, erlaubt verlässlichere und genauere Ergebnisse, dichtere Beschreibungen und informativere Veröffentlichungen. Wir diskutieren auch die Herausforderungen, die derzeit noch mit einem solchen Ansatz verbunden sind und geben einige Hinweise für künftige Methodenentwicklung.Qualitative researchers have evolved their methods continually, often due to technological breakthroughs that have enabled them to collect, analyze or present data in novel ways or to obtain a stronger authenticity or reflection of participant perspectives. In examining historical situations that have led to methodological shifts, we assert that the qualitative research community is currently on the precipice of another such change, specifically in the transcription of audio and visual data. We advocate for the benefits afforded by emerging technologies to collect, analyze, and embed in research reports actual multimedia data, thus avoiding the loss of meaning and unavoidable interpretation bias inherent in transcription. Working with data in its original multimedia (audio or video) state, instead of a transcription, can allow for greater trustworthiness and accuracy, as well as thicker descriptions and more informative reporting. We discuss the challenges still present with this approach, along with suggestions for improving future methodologies.Los investigadores cualitativos han evolucionado continuamente sus métodos, a menudo debido a los avances tecnológicos que han permitido recoger, analizar y presentar datos de forma novedosa o para obtener una mayor autenticidad o una reflexión sobre las perspectivas de los participantes. En el examen de las situaciones históricas que han dirigido hacia cambios metodológicos, podemos afirmar que la comunidad de la investigación cualitativa actualmente se encuentra al borde de otro cambio, específicamente en la transcripción de los datos de audio y visuales. Estamos a favor de las ventajas de las tecnologías emergentes para recopilar, analizar, e incluir datos multimedia reales en los informes de la investigación, lo que evita la pérdida del sentido y la inevitable parcialidad en la interpretación, inherentes a la transcripción. Trabajar con datos en su estado multimedia original (de audio o de vídeo), en vez de una transcripción, puede permitir una mayor precisión y confiabilidad, así como descripciones densas y un reporte más informativo.
