Published 1988Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7690Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsChemistry and PharmacologyNotes: We have carried out a computational investigation of the ground 1A1 and lowest energy B2 states of the titanium dioxide molecule. The treatment utilized SCF calculations in an extended basis followed by a CI treatment for each geometry. Our ground state geometry agrees well with experiment, while the agreement between the computed vibrational frequency ν1 and the experimental value for a matrix isolated TiO2 is less satisfactory. Population analysis for the ground state indicates less than one excess electron on each oxygen atom. The first excited state has a linear geometry and the singlet and triplet are essentially degenerate.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

These high-power LDAs operate near 795 nm and are of a type commonly used for spin-exchange optical pumping of noble gases. We find the Opto Power LDAs to vary significantly in output power, spectral width, and other important characteristics, in a manner not correlated with age, operating lifetime, or information supplied by the manufacturer. In addition we have developed a two-loop feedback technique for use with LDAs that stabilizes the Rb magnetization in an optical pumping cell to better than one part in a thousand. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Published 1962Staff ViewISSN: 1365-2494Source: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Fishery, Domestic Science, NutritionNotes: This is a preliminary report on an instrument being developed for the measurement of pasture yield in situ. In essence the instrument is an electrical capacitance measuring unit in which the introduction of herbage to a measuring head causes a change in the electrical capacitance of the system. This capacitance change is measured at a radio frequency and used as an indicator of the mass of herbage contained within the measuring head. The development and construction of the instrument is described and data are presented for 15 calibration series in which frequency change has been related to pasture yield.Within series the instrument accounts for approximately 90% of the variation in pasture sample yield measured either as wet, dry or organic matter. However, significant differences exist between series. These differences would give rise to bias if pasture yield were estimated from a prediction equation derived from the pooled data.Possible sources of the differences between series are discussed and avenues for further development indicated.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

It is concluded that beryllium should be considered for some conduction applications, despite its well known toxicity problems.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
