    Notes:
In the absence of pre-extraction records, the positioning of teeth on complete dentures is a somewhat arbitrary procedure. The present study was designed to evaluate a number of different criteria for tooth placement.Miniature foil strain gauges were used to measure the forces brought to bear on complete dentures by the lingual and peri-oral musculature.Previous studies of the pattern of post-extraction resorption found that the vestige of the lingual gingival margins of the maxillary teeth could be identified on the cast and it was suggested that these biometric guides are reliable for the correct placement of the upper artificial teeth. The results reported confirmed the use of biometric guides to tooth placement as a reliable method of positioning the teeth in Class I edentulous cases.

[Auszug] The patient was a girl aged 22, whose performance in a full-scale WAIS intelligence test was recorded as 67. Apart from her small stature, 4. ft. 9. in., there was nothing of note in her general appearance. No history of fits was elicited but she had an abnormal electroencephalograph. There are six ...

    Description / Table of Contents:
Neill.
    Abstract:

    Notes:
Abstract In the first experiment, the conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm was used to examine the rewarding properties of bilateral microinfusions of cocaine HCl into the nucleus accumbens (0, 12.5, 25, 50, or 100 µg). No dose of intra-accumbens cocaine induced a significant CPP. However, bilateral intra-accumbens infusions ofd-amphetamine sulfate (10 µg) or intraperitoneal administration of cocaine HCl (5 or 10 mg/kg) both produced a significant preference for the drug-paired compartment. In the second experiment, the ability of bilateral intra-accumbens infusions of cocaine HCl (50 µg) to elicit conditioned locomotor activity (CLA) was examined. During the conditioning trials, intra-accumbens cocaine significantly increased locomotor activity. On the test day, when no drug was administered, the group that had previously received cocaine in the activity chamber showed significantly greater locomotor activity than the vehicle control group. This demonstration of CLA indicates that rats are able to associate the effects of intra-accumbens infusions of cocaine with environmental stimuli; however, these infusions are not rewarding as measured by the CPP paradigm. In addition, these results may indicate important differences between the neural substrates for cocaine and amphetamine reward and reveal a dissociation between CPP and CLA.
