Published 2001Staff ViewISSN: 1089-7550Source: AIP Digital ArchiveTopics: PhysicsNotes: In this study, high-quality ZnO:Al (ZAO) films were prepared by using dc reaction magnetron sputtering technology. The effect of Al doped in ZnO films on electrical and optical properties and its scattering mechanism were discussed in detail. The results showed that Al2O3 could be effectively removed by controlling oxygen flow and Al-doped concentration during deposition of ZnO:Al films. Zn, Al, and oxygen elements were well distributed through the films. For highly degenerated ZnO:Al semiconductor thin films, it was revealed that ionized impurity scattering dominated the Hall mobility of the films in the low-temperature range; while the lattice vibration became a major scattering mechanism in the high-temperature range. The grain-boundary scattering only played a major role in the ZAO films with small grain size (as compared to the electron mean-free path). The photoelectric properties of ZAO films showed that the lower resistivity (∼5×10−4 Ω cm) was obtained, and transmittance in the visible range and reflectance in the IR region were above 80% and 60%, respectively. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Before the tests, heat resistances of a Clostridium sporogenes (PA 3679) spore crop were determined in neutral phosphate buffer and macaroni and cheese product. Trays of macaroni and cheese products were subjected to 3 processing levels: target process (F0= 2.4), under target process (F0= 1.2), and over target process (F0= 4.8). The inoculated packs were evaluated by count-reduction method and end-point method. The microbial results showed that microbial destruction resulting from MCWC heating technology matched the calculated degree of sterilization (F0 value). This study suggests that the MCWC heating technology has potential in sterilizing packaged foods.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1432-0428Keywords: Keywords Cholecystokinin ; secretin ; trypsin inhibitor ; glycaemic control ; gastric emptying.Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: MedicineNotes: Summary Patients with early non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) empty glucose solutions from their stomachs more rapidly than non-diabetic control subjects, and this exacerbates postprandial hyperglycaemia. To determine if accelerated gastric emptying occurred in a rat model of NIDDM and influenced postprandial hyperglycaemia, gastric emptying of glucose was measured, and the effect of slowing the gastric emptying rate on postprandial hyperglycaemia was observed. We tested eight male obese Zucker diabetic rats and eight age-matched lean Zucker controls at 10–13 weeks of age to measure gastric emptying of glucose (by gamma scintigraphy). Rats fasted overnight were gavaged with 30 % glucose at 1 ml/100 g body weight. Separately, six Zucker diabetic rats and six lean controls were tested for sensitivity to the inhibitory effects of cholecystokinin and secretin on gastric emptying. The diabetic rats emptied glucose significantly faster than controls (t1/2 = 37.3 ± 1.5 vs 58.8 ± 2.3 min in controls), and aging exaggerated this differential. Camostat, a stimulant of cholecystokinin and secretin release, added to the glucose meal significantly slowed gastric emptying (t1/2 = 123 ± 23 and 166 ± 19 min, diabetic vs lean, respectively), and significantly reduced postprandial hyperglycaemia in diabetic rats. Compared to Zucker lean controls, Zucker diabetic rats were as sensitive (cholecystokinin) or more sensitive (secretin) to gastrointestinal hormones that inhibit gastric emptying. The results demonstrate accelerated gastric emptying in a rat model of NIDDM, consistant with similar observations in humans with early NIDDM. These results also support the proposal that interventions to slow gastric emptying may improve glucose control in this disease. ISSN: 1741-2765Keywords: Experimental modal analysis ; tire dynamics ; three-dimensional mode shapes ; complex modesSource: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000Topics: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Production Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy, Traffic Engineering, Precision MechanicsNotes: Abstract Experimental modal analysis of a tire was carried out. Mode shapes in the radial, tangential and lateral directions of the tire under radial and tangential excitation, respectively, were obtained for the first time. The consistency of tire experimental modal frequencies in three directions was observed after careful design and adjustment of the test method. This indicates the accuracy of the experiments. The phenomena discovered in this experimental study, such as the mode shapes of the rim and the complex modes of the tire, are discussed in detail. The modal parameters acquired from experimental modal analysis of the tire can be used for the modeling of tire dynamics.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL:
