Patients with either anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa were dichotomized according to their exercise status prior to hospital admission. High-level exercisers reported greater psychopathology than moderate/nonexercisers, and these effects were not confounded by differences in body weight. Conclusions are inevitably speculative because of the cross-sectional nature of the data. It is probable, however, that certain psychological characteristics may foster high-level exercising among patients who develop eating disorders, whereas other characteristics may be exacerbated by exercise in combination with starvation.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

Rapid injection was shown to produce quicker onset of epidural block and more reliable perineal anaesthesia than slow injection, but there was no difference in the final extent of the block.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

ISSN: 1475-682XSource: Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005Topics: SociologyNotes: Even in an increasingly polarized climate of global policy-making, the ideal of “sustainable development” retains currency across a remarkably broad swath of the political spectrum in debating alternative scenarios for the future. By adapting Weber's classic categories of value spheres and collective rationality, I distinguish contemporary approaches to operationalizing the concept of sustainability and elucidate the practical implications of each. For some, the social, ecological, and economic dimensions of sustainability are synergistic components of a single meaningful goal, pursued by either an overarching technique or a unifying ethic. In contrast to these unifying models, one may conclude that the dimensions of sustainable development invoke values that inevitably conflict in any complex social interaction to derive strategies for collective action. Framing the concept in such terms, as a dialogue of values, highlights the need to adapt social institutions to mediate value conflict at different scales, and points to opportunities for engaging development debates through applied research on comparative governance.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -

As a means of increasing the half-life of the enzyme and tissue retention polyethylene glycol (PEG) was attached. A rapid inflammatory response occurred consisting of an oedematous. non-erythemic swelling lasting at least 48 h. Histologically. there was an infiltration of the dermis by monocytes and neutrophils. collagen matrix breakdown and damage to the vascular endothelium. This response was significantly inhibited by both catalase and superoxide dismutase attached to PEG (PEG-CAT and PEG-SOD, respectively). PEG alone produced no effects. PEG-CAT was able to sustain an inhibitory effect for at least 12 h. whereas PHG-SOD significantly reduced inflammation for up to 6 h. PEG-SOD may have an exacerbatory effect over longer periods.Type of Medium: Electronic ResourceURL: -
