[Auszug] Hyperion, Saturn’s eighth largest icy satellite, is a body of irregular shape in a state of chaotic rotation. The surface is segregated into two distinct units. A spatially dominant high-albedo unit having the strong signature of H2O ice contrasts with a unit that is about a ...

[Auszug] McGraw et al. demonstrated1 that PG1159-035 was multiperiodic with at least two pulsation periods of - 540 and 460s simultaneously present in the light curve. Optical and IUE spectrophotometry, coupled with Einstein and Voyager 2 data, indicates an effective temperature Te 120,000 K ...

[Auszug] A satisfactory explanation for the postulated high internal fields in the planetary nuclei has not yet been suggested. Conservation of magnetic flux from the main sequence phase of evolution is adequate only if the main sequence progenitors of the planetaries have average field intensities B ~ 103 ...

[Auszug] Calculations by Bahcall and Wolf2'3 indicate that neutrino cooling of non-oscillating neutron stars by way of the reactions (n,n) -〉 (n,p,e or fi,v), (n,-n:-) - 〉 (n,e or (JL,V) and their inverses can reduce surface temperatures below observable limits in a matter of months. Abstract The radial pulsations of very luminous, low-mass models (L/M ∼ 104, solar units), which are possible representatives of the R CrB stars, have been examined. These pulsations are extremely nonadiabatic. We find that there are in some cases at least one extra (“strange”) mode which makes interpretation difficult. The blue instability edges are also peculiar, in that there is an abrupt excursion of the blue edge to the blue for L/M sufficiently large. The range of periods of the model encompasses observed periods of the Cepheid-like pulsations of actual R CrB stars.
